England’s Anthony Gordon

Don't think he was atrocious, but he was poor. I don't like how he has the LW spot nailed down as his despite how well Barnes has played there whilst he was out, nor do I like how he seems to be untouchable regarding being substituted.

I mean, he was subbed last weekend 🤷‍♂️

It isn't that uncommon for players to have a season like this only to be at their best the season after. I would at the very least give him another season. It's just annoying how he keeps being used and prioritized when he's completely out of it.

I really like Gordon and didn't see anything of grave concern today, though he had one really bad moment which led to the goal.

Think he just needs to put this season behind him and have a bit of a reset over the summer. Hopefully there's no talk of any transfer and he can just work hard on picking himself back up a bit.

He had a really strong spell but either side of it he's blown pretty cold.

Would probably drop him next week, like.

he's a great player but i think eddie drops him for everton - both tactical and emotional reasons.

how many times today did we shout "gerrup man!" at him? [emoji38]

Gordon has bags of everything, pace, intelligence, technique, finishing.

I think sometimes being so thoughtful and self aware isn’t good for him, maybe leads to him dwelling on things and being critical.

Hopefully he can come back firing next season because at his best he’s a really top player.

He doesn’t

The lad is out of form, and I’m sure he’ll be better again next season - but he’s never looked remotely like a good finisher to me.  He’s not an ‘elite’ player, but you don’t need XI elite players to be challenging at the top end of the table.  He’s a really good footballer though and an obvious asset to the club.

I’d like to see Barnes back at LW vs Everton tbh.

Mistake aside he wasnt our worst player.

But as mentioned in the Barnes thread, I get in theory why Howe prefers him to start left in a game like this from a defensive view point.

However I don't think I saw a great deal of protection for Tino today and in this formation it shouldn't really be as necessary and he has Burn in close proximity to support.

I certainly don't get why we can't atleast give Barnes 10 mins or so on his preferred side, especially when we're losing and chasing the game.

Just seems so odd that every time Gordon  has came on recently and now again that he's starting games, Barnes is always shifted to right. I assume because Howe thinks Barnes is better than Gordon on the right, but I don't feel because Gordon is shitter on the right should be a reason to move our most dangerous left winger out of position.

Hes a great player for sure, not convinced he’s a great finisher mind, still work needed there for me.

I don't particularly want to sell him, I think he's great, but I think of all our players he's the one you could sell for big money and it'd hurt the team less. There's several wingers of an excellent standard you could buy for less than we sold him for.

I'm not sure where I stand on him, he's been off it this season though for large parts. The intensity is lower and he doesn't seem focused.

Hopefully Eddie can get him back on track, we just need another win and we are good.

There’s no doubt he’s off form, which for me is a combination of heads gone from the red card but then the hip injury. Not been settled since and it’s seemingly impacted him more than it should.

Players have off form, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Gordon is too in the camp of playing through pain, as we’ve with Isak and others this season.

He’s still a hugely important player, especially the type of winger we need as we challenge the top end and need ball retention high up the pitch / in tight spaces.

Massive overreactions in this thread. We’re told there aren’t PSR issues this summer so why sell? Because he’s had a dip this season?

His performances and goals against Arsenal twice in the league cup were crucial. He’s a good player and will have a great year next season.

Whenever they lose a game a load of people go totally overboard
