It’s like football is trying to kill itself

Half the PL is going to start next season with points deductions. What a load of shite just to keep the cartel happy.

Just going to get more and more sides do a Sheff United and not bother trying to compete if they get promoted. Prize for getting to the premier league? Watch your team get smashed every week before trying to get promoted again the year after.

The Leicester thing is crazy. They won the league, spent a fair bit but would always sell. Nothing they did would make you think they spent ridiculously or put themselves in danger. It's just a joke now.

Another fairly strong statement:

Quote

LCFC remains willing and eager to engage constructively with the Premier League and the EFL to seek the proper resolution of any potential charges, by the right bodies, and at the right time. The Club continues to take careful advice about its position and, if necessary, will continue to defend itself from any unlawful acts by the football authorities, should they seek to exercise jurisdiction where they cannot do so, as occurred earlier this year.

LCFC has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to the P&S rules through its operating model over a considerable period, achieving compliance while pursuing sporting ambitions that are entirely credible given the consistent success that the Club has achieved in that time, both domestically and in European competition. As we continue to represent the Club’s position, we will continue to fight for the right of all clubs to pursue their ambitions, particularly where these have been reasonably and fairly established through sustained sporting achievement.

Somehow none of Nottingham Forest, Everton or Leicester look in the slightest danger of going bust.  It's almost as if that isn't the reason for FFP.

Got to make an example of someone to show that the rules work....obviously can't touch the teachers pets though

Yep. For all Forest were a bit of a laughing stock last summer, they started with about 4-5 adequate players going up. They started Jack fucking Colback against us ffs.

They had to spend big just to build a half decent squad, of course there'd be some duds when they needed about 12-15 players to compete. PL seem to prefer a Norwich-style club, happy to come up and down and be grateful for it.

Like you say, none of these clubs are in any danger of going bust, it's a mess.

Why not make it like the eliminator in Gladiators. “Top Six” go on the referees first whistle and score multiple goals into an open net then on the second whistle the opposing team gets to join in. However, they can only score if they dribble the ball up the Travelator first

Looks like we've at least realised the urgency of boosting revenue.

We've clearly got out of the BK8 deal as I am pretty sure that was to run till the start of the ban.

So how come Villa can get 40mill yet we can only get, what was it 26mill because of FMV ?

pressure slowly building on Masters.

It does look like more and more people are realising what an indefensible shit show this all is.

I have no sympathy at all for Forest and Everton - they knew what the rules were, they both took the piss, albeit in slightly differing ways.

However, where I do have sympathy is in the fact that this is all going on whilst the club which built a dynasty from nothing, entirely by cheating and financial doping, which has won seven of the last ten titles (or whatever it is), has 115 charges against it and seems to have had its case punted forever into the long grass.

it's truly dreadful management. They can't face tackling Man City partly because they know it casts a fucking huge shadow over the credibility of their main product.

And everyone knows it. That's the problem.

Aaaaand it funny how Evertons charges (multiple) can be done one by one and applied likewise. Why does Man City's have to be grouped? Why can't their charges be prosecuted and charged separately? Oh yes that's right, it would mean admitting that it's all a sham and pissing off the foreign office.

This is another example of where it's all a mess.

Leicester potentially in breach of the rules (disputed) and so face a points deduction next season and/or selling players if promoted to the PL.

If not promoted, the points deduction could then also be carried over next season into the Championship. However, this jurisdiction by the PL to impose that is also unclear and also being disputed.

Let's say Leicester are likely lose the first part of the dispute, but win the second. It would almost make sense for them to not get promoted and drop out of the promotion slots, as they would not then face a points deduction in the EFL.

What does this mean for sporting integrity and for their fans? Or even the perception that they deliberately missed out on promotion?

Not that any of this is likely to be concluded on until next season anyway, at which point you'd open up a whole new can of worms.

I get why a lot of people want some form of financial control for good reasons (and bad). But whatever way you look at it this looks like something designed and implemented by the Chuckle Brothers.

It wouldn't be at all surprising if the Premier League are delaying Man City's hearing in bad faith.

But as someone with a bit of knowledged about how these things work, there's also a good change that they aren't.

*Spoiler: it's long and boring*

The backdrop to this is that Premier League aren't really a regulator. It's three geezers and the CEO of every club that participate in the league. There's no solid guidance as to how there things should or shouldn't work, so everything is probably outsourced to solicitors.

First off they'll have to find themselves an independent panel (IP). Most, if not all of the IP will consist of someone who sits on them for a living, along with people from within the industry. All of these people will need to be vetted to ensure they're not conflicted or perceived to be. Man City will have the right to object to candidates too.The IP will be guided by a legal bod, who will ensure they're acting within their scope. They too, can object if they feel a member of of the IP is conflicted or an inappropriate selection.

Once you have your IP, you need to find a date everyone is available. This can be a fucking nightmare, particularly in instance such as Man City's case which will take weeks. Most of these folk won't do this for a living, so getting a few weeks where they can all clear their diaries will be tough.

You then get disclosure. Where everyone will be sent the Premier League's case, along with Man City's defence. It's also like both sides will make some form of final statement to the IP, though this could be in person. There will no doubt be all kinds of legal wrangling of what does and doesn't go before the IP. If something goes before the IP that is successfully contested later down the line, there's a solid chance the IP will be considered prejudiced and the whole process will need to start again.

GIven there's a 115 charges in this instance and Man City have one of the biggest and best legal divisions on the planet at their disposal, the disclosure will be fucking enormous. The IP will have to be given a fair amount of time to digest and discuss it so they can formulate what kind of questions they wish to ask at the hearing.

Once the hearing is complete, the IP will deliberate and come to it's decision, with the help of the legal bod.

It might not be exactly like that, but these regulatory hearings usually follow a similar form of procedure and can take months. The delay to get Man City's case heard isn't at all surprising, particularly given how incompetent the PL seems to be.
