16 years ago Chelsea and Barcelona played in an infamous and enthralling CL semifinal. Now the two of them compete to see who can bend the rules further.

When these teams vote for these rules do they have it in the back of their mind how they can bend them ?

They wouldn't be doing their jobs right if they didn't.

Claim and counter claim, i imagine if city have been in an exclusive group of 6 teams setting the rules and agenda for themselves above the other 14 teams, they will have some serious dirt on those other 5 teams. [emoji38]

It feels like the whole league is about to go up in flames, let's hope Masters is collateral damage, we need financial regulation but let's do it to the benefit of every team in the league, get rid of the lickspittles in charge and get some common sense in their place.

Yeah just set an upper transfer limit  for all teams, at something like £250 mil in each window.

You would need agreement to draw a line on the past for this, but I don't think the principles to a form of PSR are that far removed from what we have:

(1) There is a limit to what you can spend

(2) You have to be able to finance the spend

It's pretty straightforward really.

You can set (1) as aggressive as you like to maintain the leagues position in world football, but there has to be a mechanism for teams to invest and grow so an overall cap that is equal for each team seems fair (and is a practice established in other sports so should pass any test).

(2) is then the sustainability bit, owners need to fund from cash generation, additional capital or loans but as loans have the risk of immediate repayment they have to be secured on a bond - no interest charged but there must be a cash deposit in escrow at a ratio of 1:1 of the amounts loaned to clubs.

If the PL wants to keep a link to income for wages/fees then it must allow for a forecast period where investment is realised in future income growth.

#1  I would agree on this approach. Not sure on exactly what the number should be but it should be ‘the same for all teams.

I would prefer #2 be something like you must escrow the wages at the end of the transfer window until the next window to ensure you can fund the wages and if you can’t, a penalty could include a transfer ban until you are able to fund the wages.

If the system is ever gonna be fixed it needs someone in charge with the cahones to tell the red cartel to shut the fuck up.

No chance this system is ever getting fixed. Everyone is out for themselves, capitalism doesn’t work, or at least it doesn’t work for almost everyone

The entitlement from the red cartel is unbelievable.

It wasn't so long ago that they suggested they brought in the most revenue out of the 20 teams, so should be entitled to more money.

Dog ends.

They've definitely distorted rules in Arsenal's favour - I mean every change that's made they're one of the few that always benefit - its just whether that was a coincidence or favour.

All this chaos is basically to suit Arsenal and co.

Hardly surprising it favours them if these are genuine documents

I don't think there is anything wrong with that really, and the PL didn't actually go down that route.

I think Man City would be happy for the PL to just duplicate UEFA's rules, they said something along those lines in their evidence in the APT case.

I guess the key in that letter (if genuine) is the fact it outlines Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Tottenham as seemingly trying to push rules onto the PL (probably for their own benefit, in the main), and telling them how they (those clubs) believe things should be.

No surprise there, then.

If the extent of the PL rules were:

  • Clubs must be solvent and/or have the ability to cover future debts
  • Clubs can spend whatever you want
  • Clubs qualifying for European competition must adhere to UEFA's rules. Club's found in breach of those rules will also be punished by the Premier League in the season it occurs with <X fine> and/or <Y points deduction>

Then they would avoid so much hassle, shift most blame / oversight to UEFA, and largely have the same outcome for the puppet masters. The group who would absolutely hate this are the Championship gatekeepers - the likes of Palace, Fulham, Brighton, Brentford.

For me they're in some ways worse than the big six. At least the big six are clubs with proper ambition and support. Those are clubs that but for their geographical location being attractive to players would be languishing in league one or below, while clubs in the north and midlands with proper premier league level support can't get a foothold in the PL.

I care so much less about this since we won a trophy whislt being handicapped by their attempts to stop us. They lost. We'll only get stronger from here.

Only got a £50-60m transfer budget this summer apparently. So still frustrating.
