Making some assumptions, I don't see how Miley could be allowed to leave on loan or permanently .

Those assumptions being, Longstaff is surely going to be leaving, we haven't got any other CMs imminently coming through the youth teams and Willock can't be relied upon to be fit all season.

Arguably we could do with bring in another CM this window rather than letting any leave.

Yeah it's a funny one that but what if someone puts 45m down like Forest did for MGW? We'd have to make a decision on whether he's truly destined for the top or not because it's alot of money to turn down.

You can see why someone like Everton or West Ham might be willing to shell out for a top young English midfielder, for example.

Like some have mentioned above, he should get plenty of game time but is he ready for that? If one of our midfielders gets injured, is Miley ready to step in for 15/20 games?

A loan wouldn't make any sense either because we'd be getting the worst of both worlds.

I would be absolutely raging if we sold him. With the right development I really think he could be our best academy product since the eighties (I realise not the highest bar)

If Longstaff leaves I’d like us to go for Samuele Ricci who most likely wouldn’t cost a fortune. He’s very good and can play DM and box to box and is at a great age.

I agree and I'm not advocating a sale but let's play devil's advocate for a second....

40 odd million (guesswork) pure profit in the PSR coffers might be the difference in us signing 2 more first team ready players.

I also think that if we are to head to the top, we might not want to get attached to young players that come through the system. Have a look at Man City and Chelsea, they churn out players precisely for selling them on.

I wouldnt want to have to make that decision, if a big offer came in.

He does need to get on the pitch more. His role this year when not injured has been zero pretty much.

This. From his perspective I can imagine he’s getting itchy feet. He’s a better player than Andersen who left and made a name for himself at a side chasing CL football. Eddie will need to find a wag to trust him with more minutes or we may as well cash in and allow the kid to fulfil his potential elsewhere.

I get the feeling Miley's in his Hall 23/24 season and will come to the fore as a regular rotation player next season. Without injuries last season we'd have hardly seen him and know what he's capable of.

Do think we'll sell him eventually though due to this utterly backwards PSR situation.

It would be pretty disastrous to be in a position to have to let him go unless it was for an huge fee, and especially given the number of games we’ll have next season. We need extra if anything and I don’t think keeping Longstaff is an option.

I dont see anyone coming in with that offer after this season. Might be tempted if it came, knowing how much it would help us in our FFP situation.

Hall got a run of games at the end of that season and took the momentum through the summer and into this season though. I think Miley’s a couple of seasons behind that.

It would help if we gave him a bit more time on the field but his sub appearances recently have lacked the right energy. He needs way more aggression in his game both with and without the ball.

Not sure what the answer is because with Longstaff likely off in the summer we’ll probably bring another CM in to replace him who could keep Miley down as 6th choice. Fortunately he’s still only 18 and has loads of time on his side.

Why is Romano posting about this though. Random as fuck for it to not have came for club or players side

Because he has been asked to by an agent.

It could well be Mileys people trying to drum up interest or it could be another club trying to unsettle him.

would make sense if the likes of a Dortmund are sniffing about. the kid is a total baller

no chance we'll sell him though, all it takes is one injury and he's starting games in the CL again.

No he doesn't, correct. However the point kinda still stands in that he's basically an extra first team player that doesn't need to be named in the squad.

If Longstaff goes we're going to have a 21 man squad in the CL - so having Miley around as an extra player is very useful. We're even thin on the ground for U21 players as all the ones we've signed in last couple of years can't be registered as youth players in Europe.

Constantly baffled at people basically selling Longstaff now.

Sure he's not a starter, but can any of you explain who our 5 over21 homegrown players are who we can register for the CL next year? Longstaff is 1, Gillespie another I think? Then after that?

We must register 4, so unless there's 5 on the books I can't see how we let Longstaff go. We'll have to leave blank squad spaces for our (presumed) CL campaign. Madness.

Hardly baffling that people want to sell one of our worst players mind. It certainly seems the club are more than open to him going as well.

It's four not five that you must name. And if Longstaff goes we will have zero, as Gillespie is not home grown.

So we will have to name a 21 man squad (with four empty spaces) if Longstaff goes - but Miley would not need to be named so would effectively be a 22 man squad.

It's not ideal but I don't think the club will prioritise keeping players for those purposes over getting fees for players who aren't good enough long term tbh.

I know, which is why we need 5 in order to let Longstaff go without leaving a space.

A) An injury and a suspension in midfield, and he's needed

B) "seems the club are more open to him going" - Based on what? Have you been on the phone to Mitchell?

I mean he might well go. He might not. Just seems like it'll leave us short of cover for a vital competition next year. We complain about our bench at the moment, next year we might have actual empty seats on it.

The club still needs to improve bringing through youth in a meaningful way. Felt like Elliot Anderson got blooded into the team extremely slowly, and then off he went to prove he could start games regularly. Miley used only when injuries are piling high.

Not meant to be highly negative. The club is doing great work in all other aspects. But still have areas of improvement.

Based on what Howe said a couple of weeks ago.
