I thought the SE corner was good but after a few years away I think the age of the crowd was generally more mature. As nice as it was seeing the same faces, there needs to be an injection of younger blood.

Watch the Amazon highlights after the Isak goal and it’s very “the crowd go mild”, I think in the Milburn. The bruised shins, hoarse throat and whiplash I’ve got from celebrating all the goals in the safe standing shows it’s the way forward. Like @Sima, 43 and should know better!

thought the atmosphere was decent. it was miles better than West Ham the other week for example.

could it be better? of course. but that’s never going to happen on a consistent basis without massive upheaval or a new stadium built with acoustics and atmosphere in mind.

The structure of the membership system must surely create an incentive where a lot of people in the ground, a few thousand maybe, for any particular game aren't that bothered about being there. For example, a family with 2 kids might pay nearly £120 for membership because they want a ticket for one game, plus the costs of the actual ticket, so they're potentially looking at £300 for one game. After that, they're going to keep applying even if they're not desperate because a) they see it as justifying the initial £120 outlay and b) it's so difficult to win a ballot that they need to apply for every game to fulfil point a).

You don't need that many people in a stadium whose attitude is "I'm not hugely bothered, I've got work tomorrow, the kids have got school, I didn't really want to pay all this money for Fulham at home but I'll never get in the ground otherwise, I wouldn't have picked a night game, I would have sold this ticket on but they won't let me so I'm here with a face on etc etc etc" to bring the atmosphere down.

The Liverpool fans were very loud TBF, but we gave a decent account as well.

Didn't hear them once in the Gallowgate outside of goal celebrations

I knew people would be kicking off about the atmosphere but there was little wrong with it last night, at one point it reminded me of the PSG game. Currently rewatching the game and in person it was nothing like what it sounded like on Amazon Prime.

Until we do a seat relocation fuck all will change, it's time for work flags nust nusc to come together and push the club in the right direction.

You need a stand were people want to make the difference...

Was in the Milburn last night and the average age around me must've been 60. Got asked to sit down when I stood up when we went through on the break in the 2nd half. Utter woke nonsense.

While the Gallowgate was poor tonight the top tier is much better than anywhere else in the ground outside of the GEC.

Special mention for the LEC.

Level 7 is an abomination imo, you’re so detached from the game.

I've always thought that. Changed my opinion somewhat yesterday. Had absolutely cracking seats row K seats 121, 122. Bang on halfway line. View was superb.

Atmosphere up there was pretty decent. Pockets of singing rather than en masse apart from just after we scored our goals. What you do see is how bad other parts of the ground are. Leazes End is beyond pathetic other than the East Corner and the Gallowgate starts off great at the Strawberry Corner and visibly deteriorates the closer you get to the Milburn Stand to the point where it becomes as bad as the Leazes End. Can't see Upper tier.

Atmosphere overall I thought was pretty mixed. Not great but not poor either. Liverpool fans were loud on the occasions they did sing but that wasn't all that often.

I'd say average age of fan around where we were was probably mid/late 20s.

It's weird because Shay Given mentioned the crowd noise being a big reason for us giving them a hard time, and Slot also mentioned the noisy home crowd. Hard to tell if you are watching on Amazon because it seemed pretty muted on there.

The corners all around are better I'd say. All the main stands are fairly silent. Gallowgate is supposed to be our main end and all that though. Useless. Too many middle-aged/older men in the stadium full stop but it's rife in the main parts of the stands.

Need loads of young enthusiastic folk behind the goals.

Back of the Gallowgate is alreet.

Admittedly, last night just pissed me off when I seen around 100/200 people leave the second the ball hit the net for their 3rd. Was silent though the antosphete for the most part last night.

Says everything about the level of decline in atmosphere that anyone would claim last night's as "decent" when you consider what SJP was like if we ever held our own against a top-drawer team back in the day. I even think back to some home games that we lost comfortably in the 80s - a midweek defeat by Man Utd sticks in the memory - when the noise was just epic and lasted the whole game.

well yes because something called context exists

Thought it was shocking last night tbh. Silent and didn’t have that bite you usually get at a game like that.

Agree with whoever said a reconfiguration of seating is needed. I think SJP must have the lowest number of home fans stood for 90 minutes. The old level 7 corner was class, 3k all stood singing until Ashley axed it.

i'm 55 and travel home and away.

its about having like minded fans in the same place, not how old they are.

the loudest fans where we sit in the gallowgate are the oldies.  nowt from the young'ns.

This. German football stadiums are great for this. The whole gallowgate should be safe standing and if you buy a ticket there it should be known that this is the  "standing/singing" section. If that's not your cup of tea then you should look to buy a ticket in another section. Such a policy would really help getting like-minded supporters seated together, which just isn't happening right now ( try starting a chant in the leazes).

Realistically nothing will be done until the stadium question is resolved

Agree with this completely

Strawberry Corner “trial” has clearly been a success so roll it out across large sections at each end of the ground

And L7 corner 15 years ago also shows we’re capable of utilising an official singing section effectively

But they’ve got to deal with the curmudgeons who’ve stoically sat in “their” seat for decades and would rather burn the club to the ground than move for the greater good, the person who solves that problem without bloodshed will get a Nobel Peace prize

Offer them an alternate seat with the price frozen for 5 years.  The alternate seat will also cost no more than their current seat.

Standing section is going in regardless.  Do the bottom section of the Gallowgate first, then do the middle tier for the start of the 2027-28 season.

The upper tier will become an unofficial standing section anyway.

They’ve forcibly moved fans before, this is no different.

Happy to be proven wrong but most lads 17-25 I see at games now are disengaged. On their phones, talking about their bets or just generally chatting shite during the game.

They barely sing, too.

Tell them they have 2 x options for a new seat:

- A seat at same price, anywhere else in the ground that isn’t a “premium” section. People who sit together can move together

- A seat outside the changing rooms at Dorothy Perkins whilst the wife tries on new outfits for 90 mins

Aye, back when I had a season ticket in the Gallowgate end (near the front), all the noise came from the back. This was in mid to late 00’s though.

What actually happened to the "trial" surely they should of been a date set for further safe standing to be added if success?
