He came here because we had Champions League football. Without that, we wouldn't have signed him that year. I get that they can pay more, but I still don't think he'd end up there, especially if Arsenal and Man Utd are options.

Laugh all you want, but I don't see him going to Spurs.

Just a figure of speech, didn’t mean to have a pop or anything.

I’m not sure if Arsenal or Man Utd are options - his agent has showed his arse at them enough times.  I also don’t think it was CL football - it was more money and I suspect an awareness of what was coming which persuaded Tonali to sign.  He had CL football at Milan coming up - we played them, after all.

Have to keep him if we can. After the cup win there were probably 5-6 players we had that were top 3 or 4 level. This would be 3 of them gone in a year. Hall has probably got to that level in the meantime. Not good though.

In a way I don't mind if he goes for a good fee and we get a good replacement (Camara etc). Seems like he wants to go and his heart wasn't in it last season

But yeah I do think how the hell are we going to improve, giving we've signed some poor players and have an absolute job on our hands to replace our best?

Not long ago we had Isak, Gordon, prime Joelinton, Trippier etc, we had a way better team than now, at least in the starting 11

Don't want to lose him, but if he wants away and we get a proper fee, Tottenham's money is as good as anyone else's

EDIT: But will boil my piss if he goes there (or anywhere) and immediately plays LCM and is unbelievable.

Not long ago before that we didn’t have Isak, Gordon, Trippier and others.  That’s the world we play in unfortunately - all of the players we signed from 2022-2024 were liable to be flipped within a couple of years.  The errors we’ve made were in trying to cling onto players rather than understanding how the system works and to our advantage.  If the club has finally learned how this works then all the better for the future - I still read things like ‘X player is going to be our [insert position here] for the next ten years’ and realise that some of the support are just going to end up upset every summer.

Couldn’t give a shit if he goes. His agent is a worky-ticket fuck and he’s been shopping him about for a while now. He isn’t irreplaceable and, similar to Princess Di, won’t be one I’ll get too misty eyed about. Fantastic player in patches but another who it’s obvious his time with the club is coming to a close.

If they offer silly money I'd cash in, can't be arsed with him being "open to playing" for another team every summer.

Pretty disrespectful with how we've supported him and he's basically working over time to instigate a move.

No Froggy in here telling us the cartel doesn’t exist and players want the club not money?

Apparently they've got about £350m headroom to spend this summer. 17th two years in a row. I'll not bite though.

The ideal scenario for me is that he stays and recaptures his form but if this is the end, so be it. Spurs is a bit of a depressing destination but I could probably stomach it more than going to one of the red clubs. New project under an Italian manager... I think you can probably see the appeal from his point of view.

If my grandfather had three balls he would be a pinball...(Italian proverb).

It's not a question of form...

Just to be clear, people don’t want us to play 4-3-3 because it’s shit and found out but also want Tonali to play further forward?

So in essence we need to play Bruno deeper? But then Bruno is too slow to play there and has just scored far more goals playing further forward than Tonali would.

Maybe we just want to sell him for a big fee because he’s broadly just a very good athletic midfielder and we are actually trying to move to being a better, technical side just like everyone wants?

Again, do not come here talking sense mate. Doomsday scenarios only, when will you learn?

He won’t, don’t worry.

I don't think we've ever got the best out of Tonali by playing him in that "6" role, but in that specific role, playing as he did last season, he is very replaceable.

Probably one of the best in the league at tracking back and getting his body in between attacker and ball, but he's sloppy in possession and not very disciplined, so he contributes to creating a lot of those scenarios where he has to track back to begin with. There's a wider tactical issue there too obviously.

I reckon someone else may convert him into a very good "8", but for whatever reason it seems like that will never be his role here and as such I wouldn't be THAT bothered seeing him go if the fee was ridiculous.

Would prefer it was abroad and we weren't strengthening our competition for top 6, like.

Offft, sell Gordon and Tonali and then stop selling…I think that’s fair tbh. We get the thick end of almost £200m and we rebuild. We need to recruit well obvs, but I am not sad about losing him if we bring in quality. Miley is also ready.

London is a bigger pull than people realise for Europeans, he’ll have opportunities to get mates/family over with more ease than into ponteland airport.

There’s about 4 direct flights per week from Milan Bergamo to Newcastle.

If Miley can stop getting injured every five seconds he’d be great paired with Bruno next season.  Then a holding midfielder added and we’re good to go.

If we have to sell another purple to fund this summer’s rebuild, my first choice would be Tino. But if it’s a choice between Bruno and Tonali, then Tonali has to go. Was fantastic the season before last, average last season, and had the feeling that he’s been wanting away recently, so get a good fee and reinvest without a drama. Someone like Camara looks like he might be a better fit in our system anyway. (Plus Tonali really isn’t what Spurs need, they need someone in midfield who can pass the ball and that’s probably Tonali’s biggest weakness)

I don't think his position has anything to do with him ballooning five yard passes half a dozen times per game. Plus his switch to 6 transformed our season in 24/25.
