Literally everyone does it, so no one can complain, and it can’t be policed.

I know it happens loads now but there should be no talks until a fee has been agreed We’re doing it right now with Muñoz. I agree though.
Kid Icarus
Speaking through an agent isn't tapping up. Even then the Ashley Cole thing was presented as something really unusual when it was apparently common practice.
Teasy
Was pretty poor overall last season. But instead of putting his head down and aiming to push us forward (like Bruno), he started talking to his agent about leaving. Would be fine with him going for somewhere around £80-100m. I think we could bring someone in who would give us a better midfield for less than that amount.

We weren’t a step up from Milan. Obvious mercenary is obvious.
Nobody
Do we really have to go through the 'what happened to tapping up?' every time we reports like this? It's not really been a thing for ages.
Kanj
Slightly comical any player with big pedigree would move to Spurs to play under a manager who is a flight risk to quit the job or get sacked in 12 months

Maggies
We proved last summer with Isak that we’re a selling club. Worst thing we did was backing down. On Tonali, I was really disappointed that he didn’t step up and lead the team when Bruno was injured last year. Like Isak, and recently with Gordon, we’re a club that sells their best players so let’s just make sure we get top price.

I think it sends out a proper message of 'if you don't wanna be here, you can fuck off, but on our terms'. Which is exactly the message we need to send if we're gonna be ruthless enough to constantly iteratively improve on our squad. No more going stale, sell them for a big profit and move on. Something has gone wrong big time in our project for that to happen. Gutting isn’t it. Had similar thoughts seeing two ex NUFC players (Anderson and Gordon) line up for England recently, thought ‘oh this is where we are at again.’
Mole
I find it amusing when people still are shocked by "tapping up" when it's been common practice for 2 decades plus by literally everyone. Including us. Edited 9 hours ago by Mole

Yep - though in Tonali’s case, given his ban and subsequent ‘loyalty’ in his agent touting him about less than a year and a half after he returned I’d say he really is one. I said basically this months ago when his agent first started holding talks with other clubs. I have come to terms with losing players and I really don't give that much of a shit any more as long as we get top price. Truth is, until we can pay top wages, we can't keep top players. That's all there is to it.

I'm all for a reset but when the likes of Murphy and Willock have more chance of being in our squad next season still it's all abit bleak. Anyway the rumour mill will no doubt start for an incoming centre mid now..I reckon they'll start floating Camaras name round again Edited 9 hours ago by jack j
r0cafella
I don't see Spurs paying What's needed tbh. Unless we are going to hand out discounts like we did last summer.
Kanj
Wil say it hits the heart a bit what the financial constraints have done to us like. We should absolutley be competing for a league title with what we should have been able to retain and pay and recruit.
TRon
Just now, TheBrownBottle said: They will be, they haven’t watched him give the ball away ten times a game yet That's the other thing. There's no doubting he can be a hell of a player when it comes to closing down and moving the ball quickly, but he's what you would have called a water carrier back in the day. Not that their role should be under-estimated, but we should be able to replace him with a younger version without that much issue if we have good scouts and a competent DOF.
