Kalvin Phillips talks to begin soon according to Luke Edwards.

Same piece claims:

“If money is spent in January for a permanent deal to go through, Newcastle will almost certainly have to sell one of their own prize assets in the summer, which raises the possibility of cashing in on the likes Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman or Alexander Isak in July or August”.

Cheery as always from Luke.

Selling any of those three would massively weaken us. Id say those three are unsellable unless they’re the ones pushing for a move

If we were to sell one of those in the summer the money would show on the following years' accounts, so that doesn't make sense as we'd still go over the current accounts if we're as hamstrung as Baldwards makes out.

Even still we lose every game Bruno misses pretty much, Isak is our best attacker by miles and our only other striker turns 32 in February and we still need a CB on top of Botman, Schär and Lascelles.

We can also raise some decent money to offset FFP concerns by selling other players instead of our obvious best ones

If we do look to sell, Almiron and Longstaff are the two that I'd probably be looking to try and move on.

Almiron it feels like next summer will be our last chance to get money back for him.

Longstaff is a bit tricky as he's useful for the homegrown rule in Europe... I feel like from a pure footballing perspective though Miley should be taking his spot in the team/squad. If we sign a new DM as has been rumoured, it leaves Longstaff quite far down the pecking order once Tonali is back too.

Also could see us looking to move on one of Joelinton/Willock, unpopular as that would be. However, if it opens up opportunities to add players who can offer more in the final third, it may be a hit worth taking.

Have a feeling this lad will be the surprise addition brought forward from next summer.

‘90min has reported extensively on the interest from Premier League sides in Sesko, most notably from United, Arsenal and Chelsea, while Newcastle have also kept a close eye on the Slovenian's development.

Intermediaries had previously made it known that Sesko could be available to move in January, with more playing time firmly on the agenda as he prepares to lead the Slovenia line at Euro 2024.

90min understands that nothing has changed in that regard, and all interested Premier Leagueclubs have again been informed of the potential of agreeing a deal. A loan with an obligation to buy, should certain criteria be met, has been suggested, and Sesko's game is one many top scouts feel is suited to top-level English football’.

Isak is still what, £40m on our books for ffp? We aren't getting a huge profit to make it worth selling a top class young player and somehow finding equal/better

Agreed, Isak in the summer would be 2 seasons of £60m amortised so £36m left on the books. You’d want a lot more to make that worthwhile.

We're not a threat to them and their league position any more, sadly.

Nothing sad about it, we were already at least a year ahead of schedule even qualifying for the CL, never mind threatening City. Loaning Philips isn't going to affect them as they obviously don't have any space for him in their side. We on the other hand, definitely could use him.
