I’d take either.  Preferably Phillips of course

Aye. Don't see a problem with "sticking plaster" loans. Man Utd did it with Sabitzer and Weghorst last season and the extra bodies helped them to 3rd and a cup. Just do it.

yeah I think the clubs main worry is teams leveraging our injury situation to try and extract a FFP damaging loan fee as we’ve already seen with the talk of a 7m odd loan fee for Phillips.

Same.  Sometimes you need to be pragmatic.

A player like Solanke wouldn’t offer us sale on value either really. At this point we need top quality players but also players that can be an amazing investment potentially. When considering FFP. Preferably we wouldn’t have to sell any quality player whatsoever, but that’s not the reality  atm really. (This is based on assuming that we would have gone for him if possible)

The spuds for van de ven for what? 35m Howe has made Jamal into a class act, I think it’s the one area with a stable set up where we can stretch our money.

Surprised you would use Spurs as an example given they've also bought multiple dubs in that position for big numbers, not sure Van De Ven is comparable to Botman either given how much criticism Spurs get for the way they play defensively (not blaming VDV specifically for that but still), haven't watched Spurs much this season to be able to compare. I think Botman is a top class CB with the potential to be World Class, would assume we'd sell him for circa 60m max, and we'll struggle to replace him for a similar amount, also there's the problem that defenders in that price range who are that good aren't coming to us just yet.

So what? It's not our money, and the Saudis don't seem to have any problem doing it for their own league.

Again, I'd rather sign a 25 year old, the real point here is we aren't allowed to buy the players we need to right now because of restrictions put on us from outside.

It is because of FFP. Long term it's not the best to spend money on players that you will eventually let go for free, unless it's a crazy deal like Trippier for £12 mill. Spending £20m on an older player impacts how much we can spend on players who will stay for a long time, or who will atleast increase their value. We bought some older defenders in the first window. It worked, but now we will soon have to go shopping for a bunch of defenders again, and FFP is limiting us, while we are also in need of players in other positions at the same time.

The owners has been very consistent with the idea that this is a long term project, so we don't buy players just to improve in the near future. The exception was the first window where we were near relegation.

Even if true, he’s better off not saying it imo. Our own players will start to question these statements.

Why will the players question him saying that? The team will know as much as anyone we need reinforcements, the manager saying that won’t make a difference.

Your basically telling the squad we can’t do anything to improve, hardly a good message to send to some of the ambitious lads we have.

Isak is irreplaceable. Losing Bruno will hurt but Is manageable but the midfield will need a total rethink.

Ironically it's the rest of the squad which is far more replaceable, but not many clubs will give us money for them because they aren't that valuable. Those comparing us with Man City in the early years might want to think about that. After they bought Toure, did they then have to think " Ooh we better sell him quick so we can afford to buy other players".
