NUFC Transfer Rumours

I mentioned him in passing a while back on the basis that I think he's a left-footed RW who is the right age and I think his contract expires next summer. Don't actually know anything about him though.

Edit - me and quite a few others I should say

Contract expires 2026.

Bakayoko has a contract with PSV until the summer of 2026 and told Voetbal International that he will only leave the club for someone who is fighting for titles.

He said, “I look carefully at where I am now and what I want to achieve. I want to go to a club that can get as far as possible in the Champions League, a club that plays for the title every season. And where I can improve every year. I rule out a lot of clubs. My ambitions are high and not with clubs in the middle. I am doing well here, so I will only swap PSV for a club that plays for trophies.”

Bakayoko has previously been linked with Brentford, Liverpool and PSG.

No thanks to Semenyo. We don’t need another energetic, hard-worker that can run around a lot. I know Eddie values these sorts of attributes very highly, but even he can surely see we need someone more creative in that position.

Considering we were linked with Huijsen in the summer and then pursued a far more expensive Guehi, just shows how Mitchell needs to enforce a new approach.

The kid was tremendous against Solanke last night, will go for over 50 million in next 2 seasons.

I bet he’s on less wages then Lloyd Kelly as well, real false economy and highlights our narrow view of the transfer market.

Can’t say I disagree with any of that - actually a really good profile of player with an incredible upside - kind of the profile of player we needed aswell

Whilst I agree with this, some of the links so far ahead of January don’t suggest much of a change of approach regarding transfers (Semenyo, Mbuemo, Guehi and Elanga all linked). Obviously only speculation, but the nosies don’t suggest Mitchell is enforcing any new approach.

He also completely missed the ball over the top at one point and gave Solanke a really good chance which he should have scored

This is mostly the UK media being lazy.

There have been links with players in the mould of Huijsen at centre back.

Joel Ordonez at Brugge.

Abdukodir Khusanov at Lens.

Tomas Araujo at Benfica.

And for right wingers we've also been linked with similar younger talents too.

Geovany Quenda at Sporting.

Johan Bakayoko at PSV.

Maghnes Akliouche at Monaco.

We might go for an experienced player still in those positions but I think it will only be if the deal is really great value. For example the recent rumours Tomori is available for £25 million this January and he wants to return to the Prem.

Can I just check that when we talk about "links" there's an acceptance that 99.7% of "links" are absolute bullshit with zero substance that have been made up to generate clicks

It'll help me navigate this thread if I know the lie of the land

Issue though, we need to move someone on to be able to manoeuvre a bit more in the market. Breaks down to the below for me:

Players you don't want to sell, unless it's an insanely daft offer: Botman, Tino, Hall, Bruno, Tonali, Miley, Gordon, Isak

Players you sell if the offer is reasonable: Joelinton, Barnes, Longstaff, Willock

Players of minimal value that you happily sell, but bring in fuck all: Dubs, Pope, Greek Guy, Burn, Schar, Krafth, Trippier, Kelly, Targett, Almiron, Murphy, Wilson

Basically four players to focus on, one of which has signed a new beasty contract, one who's nearing end of a contract, one who's injury prone for past 18 months and then Barnes.

Yes, let's happily sell Burn and Schar, the mainstays of our defence for the last 3 years, for fuck all money. Jesus Christ [emoji38]

If we can get Tomori for around £25m we should be all over that instead of spunking money on Guehi.

He's only just about to turn 27 too, he's not a pensioner. We could easily get 3+ seasons out of him.

I also wonder whether the glut of "links" to PL players is a combination of name recognition driving clicks/engagement plus UK journalists having more contacts within the UK. For example, if we've been watching Semenyo then they'll be more likely to pick that up compared to some young lad playing in Portugal, because they don't have as many sources there.

I’d still want us to target Madueke in summer for the star RW. Chelsea need sales and they have Esteavo coming in summer so need to make room in their attack, in particular RW.

Let’s be honest, if we’re early into 25/26 season and Schar / Burn are still key starters for us, then we’ve fucked things even more. So of course they will be players you happily move on, just the fee is minimal so doesn’t make a dent when needing to raise funds to make big changes.

His stock his risen significantly since we were linked in the summer - full England international now and performing well in the PL. I can't see Chelsea selling him now and I don't think we could afford him anyway, which is a shame because I think he'd be the perfect signing.
