NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Broke cunts trying to whip up interest in one of the players:

Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in Barcelona defender Eric Garcia, 23, but the formerManchester City man wants to stay at the Nou Camp and fight for a first-team place. (Sport - in Spanish)

Logical decision:

Newcastle will let England striker Callum Wilson, 32, leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the current season. (Football Insider)

I get all that but surely the 3rd option is you scout someone with immense talent and potential and roll the dice a bit otherwise we’ll never sign anybody 🤷‍♂️ We are going to have to start doing things differently and this is surely exactly the situation where Mitchel earns his crust?

We've been recruiting young players who show potential for the future from all over the world and that opportunity may occur again in January, but what I think people are hoping for is a player who can fit into the first team almost immediately.

I think there are several reasons why Eddie has wanted to damp down expectations of that happening. One factor is that a couple of years ago, there were several areas that needed strengthening, so there were plenty of options. Now I think we're only looking at centre back and right-sided forward. Furthermore, we're unlikely to win a transfer battle with a Champions League club, and the player's current club needs to be willing to sell half way through the season.

We've done well in picking up players of quality whose form has dipped a bit, and where the bigger clubs' interest has faded as a result (eg Isak, Gordon, Tonali). That would still be a possibility for January, I'd have thought, but overall we may be looking for a needle in a haystack here.

What came across to me in Eddie's interview on Match of the Day is that he genuinely feels he can get more out of the current team, and that there's no need right now to buy in haste or take a risk. Tonali has found his feet at last, Bruno is pushed further forward, and the dynamic of the team is changing. Some of our attacking play in the last three weeks has probably been the best I've seen since Eddie arrived.

Garcia is very poor - stay well clear

Yeah I agree with that. I think they’ll go relatively big in Jan (say RW) only if they can get a player who they’re pretty sure will really add something to the first team both in time but also add something different now and who creates greater depth. Or if someone suddenly became available such as the Gordon situation. This would also depend on outgoings in Jan.

I think we wait and try for Dibling in the summer.

You would choose him over Mbuemo/Semenyo/Bakayoko?

I think we would see a "Lewis Hall" style first season if Dibling were to come here. Don't see that happening with any of the other three.

I’d pick him over Semenyo definitely, not seen Bakayoko tbh so can’t comment on that.

Mbuemo and Roony Bardjhi - would like both - proper upgrade the position as Mbuemo could also cover for Isak upfront, Roony could do the Lewis Hall role

Dibling would be good with a Semenyo type - Semenyo is already there, Dibling would develop and eventually replace

I feel the issue with Mbeumo is he's probably peak value right now: 25, premier league proven, having a really good year, Brentford sold their other star attacker this year too so aren't desperate for cash, full-on pirate beard. He'd cost a lot of doubloons.

Dibling is that good, I'd be happy for us to sign him and loan back to end of season to get a better deal if needed.

Or maybe if PSR is tight agree to a sale to take place on 1st July? A second £70 million loss year will have dropped off our books then.

Not really any benefit to Southampton for that though.

A sale and loan back would be a good option like. Would secure us a really exciting prospect for not much impact on 24/25 finances and would give them some money to spend on a couple of players to try to stay up.

Is Murphy playing well for 3 games really enough for us to presume he can keep this up until the end of the season though?

I was under the impression we were pretty desperate for right winger. So surprised people would be willing to loan back if we managed to sign that kid.

Think would be naive to assume Murphy will be able to keep up this form just based on his last few games. Not to mention the need for rotation also even if he did.

Don't the new squad cost ratio rules kick in on the 1st July? If so, previous years losses will not longer count

I want Bakayoko based on nothing more than Ibrahim Bakayoko being an absolute legend for me on championship manager back in the day.

97/98...the wonder kid to get. Bit of a shame he turned out useless in real life

Form and delivery is what's needed...he's doing exactly that. Would be great if he could be relied on to do it for 10/15 games in a row

Yeah fair point, no idea how the new rules will work, though it would still minimise this year's PSR spend and give Soton extra income for next years accounts. However it works.

Anyway, it's assuming we want him, they're willing to sell, we can agree a fee, he wants to come here, no-one else he'd rather go to bids as well.
