He's looked better than all of Chelsea's 38 keepers anyway.

Gomes is great, but to succeed he’d have to join probably Arsenal or Man City, where the sides are so drilled at ball retention he’s weaknesses are covered and his strengths of ball progression are shown.

 

For sides like us that require a combination of cover and physicality a bit more, he’d be exposed more.

I think that might put us behind the queue to clubs like Man U and Chelsea unfortunately. He's far more likely to be first choice there. Although whether either of them would want to risk a punt on him being good enough is debatable. They would want someone more proven I think.

I know he doesn't want to leave, but a move to Leeds would probably be the next best thing for a home bird like Longstaff. It's barely two hours up the road. He could commute if he really wanted to stay put here.

Only the 1 year left so maybe lower than that be happy with 10m+  based on this and his lack of game time this season.

I pretty much know already. He'd suit a Moyes team basically. Physical and direct, not too much intricate passing.

But he can’t really close down very well, he’s not athletic.

I'm hoping the James Trafford rumours are not with the intention to bring him in as a starter, rather as a back up for 1, 2 maybe even 3 years. Goalkeeping is a mentality game above all else, and it's why we see goalkeepers getting better with age and seldom do we see a young, early twenties top level goalkeeper. Their progression is very different to that of an outfield player.

Trafford having a good season in the Championship at Burnley tells me almost nothing other than that he's a talented goalkeeper; mentality-wise, the step up to the premier league is big, the step up to being the number 1 at Newcastle United is absolutely enormous.

I'd be concerned if he was our number 1 at this time.
