He obviously improves us but I wouldn't necessarily expect another 20 goal season from him. 5 of them are penalties and then he's outscored his non-penalty xG by double. xG is not the be all and end all but consistently good players don't tend to outscore it by much at all. Prior to this season his hit rate is 1 in every 4.5 PL games which is not really £60m territory. In previous seasons, Brentford were constructed around Toney. It’s no surprise that Wissa and Mbeumo have been somewhat liberated in his absence. At Newcastle he’ll be playing in a better team with a manager at least as good. I think his numbers can get better. As others have said he’s a two for one, providing excellent cover for Isak centrally too. And having another class penalty taker in the ranks is always useful. Some interesting comments on how attractive a club we are to players. https://www.redcafe.net/threads/bryan-mbeumo-newcastle-ready-to-make-bid-telegraph.486505/page-35 God they really are up their own arse aren’t they “Does he want to tell his Gran Kids that he had the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and chose Newcastle instead” “Thing is when other clubs are reported it usually is more concrete and less BS as they don't sell as many papers on Newcastle rumours.”

Optimistic Nut Posted Wednesday at 16:26 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:26 In a world where England's first choice CB and a winger who's just scored 20 goals in underwhelming. Love it.
Guybrush Posted Wednesday at 16:28 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:28 That Spanish keeper or bust I say. Also, I've don't understand the hype with Guehi, but I suppose that's mainly because I've just seen him score goals for us

Kid Icarus Posted Wednesday at 16:32 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:32 The only thing I don't quite get about Guehi is his weakness in the air. Quite often our trap is to press teams into hitting it long and then dominating in the air. How does that work if they launch it to whoever he's marking? gdm Posted Wednesday at 16:33 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:33 (edited) Can’t say I’ve been impressed with Guehi and I guess we’ve been waiting on a right winger for so long Mbeumo could be underwhelming to some. I think he’s just what we need tho Edited Wednesday at 16:34 by gdm

Should get more oppurtunities with us. Wouldn't expect 20 goals by all means. 20 goals+assists maybe. The best counterpoint to this is that Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez off the back of one season where he scored 32 from 21.5xG for Benfica. He's not a good finisher to say the least! Good finishers and consistent goalscorers like Isak, Haaland, Mbappe etc. all tend to score pretty much in line with what's expected or just over. Just think we'd be paying a peak/inflated price for him because he's had a statistically amazing season. 1 minute ago, Kid Icarus said: The only thing I don't quite get about Guehi is his weakness in the air. Burn or Botman do the difficult aerial duels and Guehi/Schar only get involved when they know they can win. Fabi's personal aerial statistics massively improved when he started getting partnered by Burn/Botman because he's allowed to pick his battles more. Before that they were really poor. Yeah that's a fair point. I think of Schar as being very good in the air tbh, but looking at the stats it seems like he's not as good as I thought and Guehi actually wins more. Kid Icarus Posted Wednesday at 16:47 Share Posted Wednesday at 16:47 (edited) Mbeumo has outscored his xG, BUT, his previous season stats are still very consistently impressive, match his xG, and he took more pens (5) this season, so it's not his fault really. This is the first window in a while where we can spend without the threat of PSR instantly ruining everything. Some people are saying we have around 250 million to spend before we need to sell anyone, it'll be nearer 100, possibly 150 million given we've just secured CL football. We're good buyers though, so anyone we do splurge on will likely be worth it.
