Why not? Anyone player can be transformational.  Especially someone replacing Jacob Murphy.

The most important thing is to get players who may not have come without CL. That calibre. Tonali would never have come if we didn't have CL that season. 

Elanga and Joao Pedro would come to us regardless of where we finish as they'd be taking a step up to a bigger club. 

I'd love to see some ambitious names because everyone is majorly strengthening and to improve significantly you have to make up a lot of ground every season.

So I naturally think 1) yes we need more technical ability, who doesn’t love that but 2) how often do we HAVE to break a team down to win a match? And 3) if we just get better players to more effectively execute plan A, then why truly reinvent the wheel? 

We have to everytime we go behind at home. And we have struggled to do that under Howe quite a few times. 
 

We need attacking players that win their duels 1v1. Murphy and Almiron for example dont do that. That is why our attacking play too often is about crosses. That is not a very good way to break low block.

The club can still continue the process of talking to and negotiating with players during the window gap. It just won't be official until it 'gently eases open' again. In the same way that business happens before it's first opened.

For me it isn’t mainly just because of breaking up a low block. It’s a lot about ball retention in general and controlling games as well as conserving energy in different phases of a game. Not putting unnecessary pressure/energy on defenders and defending in general.

We actually collected more points from the teams who finished 14th-20th (39) than anyone apart from Liverpool (40).

 

The problem was the 10 points we picked up from teams finishing 8th-13th, only the three relegated teams got less than that. 

 

Man Utd, West Ham, Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham - I'm no tactical mastermind but I don't remember those sides just parking the bus and us being unable to break them down? 

 

Edit - sorry it was Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Palace, Everton

What position is Ramsay? His G/A is pretty shitty. Looks like he presses hard and turns the ball over well. Is he a 10 or a modern "wide forward"

As far as transfer window strategy, is there any value to waiting until clubs that can spend more make their major moves? Especially with PSR constraints

 

Liverpool signs Wirtz; City sign Cherki; MU signs Mbuemo... they are much less likely to bid for another AM / winger that we might pursue, especially if we are seeking value
