NUFC Transfer Rumours

I really like Elanga but it is interesting how 12 months ago the idea of signing Elanga for even 40m would have had people up in arms, now we are talking 60m.

Im of the opinion that 60m is absolutely top end and we shouldnt go any further... however, there comes a point where we have to do what we've got to do.

This RW position has plagued us for years and I reckon we've got to bite the bullet and get it done.

At the very least we can go into the season knowing we have a priority position sorted.

Fuck that imo. If we are ever going to compete against our financial overlords we need to be ruthless in the transfer market. Got to get good value out of every one of our transfer, especially the expensive ones.

I massively disagree with £60m for Elanga being "crazy" like. He's a proven PL player, with massive raw attributes, only 23, on the back of a really good season. He's about as close to a guaranteed "good signing" as we're going to find. I'd put Kudus in the same bracket but he's coming off the back of a poor season.

The "shopping abroad" thing is all well and good, but the prices being thrown around seem equally as high in Europe at the moment.

I think we just have to get used to the idea that £60m today is the equivalent of £40m a couple of seasons ago.

Knowing what you know, do you think there is any prospect we see a repeat of last summer? Just linked to PL names but no tangible progress?

Given we're absolute perverts for revisting old targets, I wonder if Tapsoba is still on the list. It was

reported last year that he was the choice after Guehi.

Seems we're prioritising GK, RW and CF over RCB though.

Be a risky decision going into a season with Schar, Botman and Burn as our CB choices. Incredibly fortunate last season that Schar and Burn managed to stay injury free.

Would be a mistake imo. Especially as we love a man for man press we can't continue with the total lack of mobility in defence.

Can be a bit hit and miss as a source, but thought I'd share, as they've gone as far as to say we've actually bid for him, and we were strongly linked last summer, and so we'll soon see I guess.

We only need 1 small sale this window (even a 10m Longstaff deal for example) to spend 170m and above based on my rough PSR calculations. I reckon that’s what we’re waiting for to spend big on a CB too.

Should have around 30m worth of headroom this summer if I’m not mistaken.

It’s why I’m not as desperate for a new keeper as some. For me, out of the priority positions, keeper is the one we could manage for another season.

Yeah if I have to sacrifice one position or would be keeper. We have so many and Pope should be ok for another season.

I'm also not sure about the develop a goal keeper concept, does any other club do that? Most just buy the best they can get.

Funnily enough, he's always been the one I liked the most of all the names we were being linked with last summer (Guehi, Silva, Diomande etc). He seems to have all the physical characteristics we look for, plus he has really good numbers in terms of progressive passes/carries which we might want if we're looking for a Schar replacement.

Completely agree. People saying £60m for a goalscoring winger is crazy....no, Palace asking for £70m for Geuhi was crazy.

A week today and the players start feeding back in for pre season.

From a star player perspective (Isak, Bruno, Tonali etc) it would be seen as a disappointment to see no new faces in. Bruno even said post Everton game the squad needs help.

Much like last summer when I was quite happy to walk away from Guehi when it got stupid, anything close to £60m for Elanga has me feeling the same way.

£52m? To be honest all the numbers seem ridiculous guess the actual cost itself  becomes secondary to a comparison of what you could get for a similar amount.
Perhaps we should go and buy five League One/Championship level players and hope one works out.
