NUFC Transfer Rumours

We really should just keep Isak regardless, get a cheaper back up and use the funds to buy top quality in CB and CM. We aren't getting a top ST in this window.

Its hard though next year even if he stays other clubs will be on the hunt for a striker meaning more competition and by the end of this campaign we may not have champions league qualification again meaning even harder to attract players more so than now.

If we can secure one now it at least sorts the next summer to do list out a little which based on how many will be entering final year of contracts or their year extensions ending could be an extensive list to recruit again.

Striker distractions is a bit annoying.

They're both super committed warriors but another year of Schar and Burn's lack of pace at CB could be tough to mask at times next year.

We're so cooked this upcoming season.

Bar some miraculous transfer activity this week, everyone should brace themselves for a respectable 8th-10th place finish.

The other side to that is even if we get someone like Sesko in? Is he the answer for a CL campaign. Probably not. He doesn’t look anywhere near the finished article and there’s still a few question marks over wether he’ll even suit the prem.

There are dozens of viable players we could get, our scout/backroom team havejust been incompetent and suffering from tunnel vision.

An absolute nonsense 1 though.

Opinions vary but I’m choosing the writing on the wall rather than blind optimism.

The Big 6 are hoovering up players like it’s nobody’s business and we are being left with the scraps. Not even the scraps, the scraps of the scraps.

I can understand the serious concern about this transfer window, but FFS we were supposedly cooked last season. We obviously have way more games and will most likely suffer injuries to key players if we don’t add what we need.

But seriously, this constant pessimism is just a bit too much. We have a brilliant manager who has worked miracles with one hand tied behind his back. It may well be too much even for him this season, but to write it off before we started…c’mon. Sometimes feels grimmer than the Ashley years based on some comments. And it almost doesn’t matter what happens.

Oh FFS, you are probably just as clueless as the rest of us, man. C’mon with this “I tell it like it is” bullshit.

Just for a bit of perspective.

The transfer window is open for 11 weeks.

As from today there are 5 weeks of the window left, and so we've just gone past the mid point.

Encouraging but also how am I going to make it to the end?

The entire narrative would change if we made another couple of strong signings TBF. We really weren't that far off a very good side. That's what is frustrating about the whole thing.

Course it would. If it wasn't for the very emotionally-charged Isak thing, we're just lamenting the slow pace of incomings imo, rather than completely losing our marbles. And the two things are unrelated for me; Isak's still after a move even if we've signed say Pedro and Trafford.

Honestly it's mostly group/writing therapy for me like. Appreciate it can be an absolute bummer to have to read all the time but this window has been such a disaster that I just need to get some catharsis out there while we hopefully sign our next player.

Yes, I definitely take it too seriously.

The sad thing for me is just that even if we have pretty much the best window I can imagine, we'll probably end up worse if Isak goes. So we'll have to do incredibly well for top 5 if the usual suspects do well.

I can just about imagine us getting Sesko and Wissa I suppose, which would avert disaster. But I'm not saying it's likely.

TBH I think guaranteed CL every season will really only be a thing for 2 or 3 teams from now on anyway.

Screw it

Sell 150m Isak and get the following

Our team depth and everything improves - to the extent we could challenge

Senne Lammens - 22m
Scalvini - 37m

Paqueta - 25m
Simons - 58m

Sesko - 65m
Wissa - 35m

90-100m net spend

I think at least 5 of those would cost more than that and at least 2 of them would have no interest in coming here IMO.

I literally don’t know what else to say bud. We’ve lost targets we’ve tracked for months, years in the case of Trafford, all to clubs in the traditional “big 6” bracket.

We seem to have an extremely narrow scope for ready made, plug in and play, type players of which it doesn’t look likely we’ll deviate.

Two things need to drastically change - we either need to start offering wages on par with the big 6 - which we can’t do. Or we start broadening our horizons and start unearthing some diamonds in the rough/turds that need a good polish - we Eddie doesn’t seem to want to do.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

I love the optimism which I wish I could share forgetting isak for a minute depending how we perform it could easily be a 60 game season, squad was already on the older and slower side last year and now a year older.

The loss of Wilson other a body could argue with 1 or was it no league goals is no real loss the increased competition for Murphy is great.

Longstaff in the end had under 500 mins last season I think.

Botman may play more often than last year.

Most agree we have a great starting 11 and now have competition at both wings but it's seriously asking alot to play wed/sat thur/sun for alot of these players and not expect injuries or tail off in performances through fatigue.

Manager isn't stupid he's said we need to bring players in issue and fear now is will we.

The other issue is he and the lads dug deep and pulled it around to have an amazing finish to the season but its asking alot to backup transfer failure to expect them to keep performing miracles.

I really think we're completely sleepwalking on a major CB crisis and the succession planning is awful there.

Botman cannot be relied upon physically. Burn and Schar are 33 and probably have one season left in them. Krafth and Lascelles also past 30 and are not up to it.

We need 2 CB signings in the next 12 months. If you can't get a 'top' target then you need to get one from a shelf down anyway and go for more of a punt on potential because we're going to need more anyway very soon.

I honestly feel you, man. It has been a shit show  up to this point. But I do have some not so unfounded optimism because of who is at the helm. Could well be like 23/24 or worse,  but Howe is capable of pulling off miracles. If he starts getting fed up, then that’s another story.

Dude, having serious concerns is more than valid. I do too. And I’m not extremely optimistic tbh. But I am not going to write off the season before it starts.

Also the fact we are now trying to sign £60/£70m players and have a club pushing for Europe every year

I know we all want the best of the best , however we have progressed and are just finding it difficult to move up to that next rung (due to wages / PSR pressure)
