NUFC Transfer Rumours

Around 8/9 of Sunderland’s first XI were bought in the summer.

Yeah, I don't get it.

If that's what's needed and the money is available to improve the team, just get it done.

Howe in the presser today effectively saying he thinks six transfers were ‘too many’ last summer and would be aiming for fewer signings this summer, and thereafter. Not really jiving with many of our hoped overhauls.

Let’s review the squad:

Trippier - gone

Krafth - gone?

Schar - possibly finished

Tino - huge noise about wanting away

Gordon - huge noise about wanting away

Tonali - substantial noise about wanting away

Elanga - A travesty of a footballer

Wissa - A travesty of a transfer

Murphy - not a massively talented lad and he’s now losing some pace rendering him only suitable as a bench option

Pope - needs a trip to the glue factory

Ramsdale - needs a trip to a championship/premier league yo-yo club

Willock - should be sold

Joelinton - should be sold if there’s a proper offer as his body is so fragile and we can’t expect him to be the warrior he’s been for us

Woltemade - seemingly been a very difficult season for him and Howe as a duo and it’s unclear how trusted he is and how flexible Howe can be

Find it hard to believe we can avoid a major overhaul, even if it’s not on our terms

Quite concerning tbh, as minimum, I’d say we need two keepers, RB, LB, CB, striker and winger. That’s before anyone leaves. Of course not all will be first team starters.

Does he mean first team ready players because I'd be well happy with 5 new players in our starting 11 at the start of next season, with several prospects on the fringes of the squad.

Hopefully that's what he meant. If not it really doesn't make sense.

I'd have to listen again but that wasn't the vibe I got from what he said. I think he was saying ideally ajd normally successful teams just top up and add rather than overhaul but I think there was acceptance than we may not have a choice this summer.

I dunno maybe it was the opposite. If so we are in trouble I think as I feel the bulk of this squad has run it's course.

We may have plenty of gaps but I wouldn't be against fewer but better signings. 2 or 3 excellent signings could transform the team and hide gaps (for a time).

I'm probably showing my age, but that Bellamy/Robert summer, I can't remember signing anyone else of note that summer and they transformed the team. I realise football 20 odd years ago was 'slightly' different but I'm still of the belief a couple of great players can make a big impact.

I mean if we'd of had the isak of last season instead of Elanga, Wissa and Woltemade I would bet decent money we probably finish in the top 6 comfortably to be honest, maybe even higher. So that's just one player.

Problem is we likely lose at least two of our better players in possibly Gordon and Tonali so we will need to replace them to even stand still.

Squad overhauls are exceptionally rare. I never understand why people expect them to happen. A bit like player swap deals.

100%, that’s not the vibe he was giving at all. He was saying in an ideal scenario you’d drip feed players but that’s probably not going to be the case. But he sounded enthusiastic about it, I think he wants some of them out.

With the outgoing players we’re going to need at least 6 I’d guess. Possibly more if we’re ruthless in shifting some of the shit.

GK

RB

CB

CM

LW

RW

ST

Possibly a LB too, that’s before shifting the likes of Willock and Osula.

I am assuming Gordon is away there.

He had a year and a half left on his contract and he was at Ligue 2 L'Orient.

They weren't going to be asking 25-30 million for him from anybody man.

Was taking the piss based on our recent trading where we spunk money up the wall and give sell-on fees to every cunt going like a bunch of muppets.

First game of the season, who from the current squad are you happy to see in the xi - taking into account likely departures

GK

RB

Thiaw

Botman

Hall

Miley

Bruno

CM/10

LW (although I'm ok with Barnes)

RW

Wolt

That's 5 first teamers needed, on the bench:

GK

Schar

Ramsey

Osula

RB

LB

CF

RW

LW

2nd CB

Big Joe

So another 6 first team squad players.

So unless we really use some of the u21s it's a minimum of 11 needed, if not this summer then over the next 3 windows (and Schar/Big Joe probably gone in that time frame so add 2 more)

Hate to say it but unless there is a dramatic upturn, I wouldn't be happy with Botman being our number one cb any more. He's falling into the Lascelles type 3rd/4th choice for me.

His body seems to have deteriorated too much for the premier league pace.

I think we need 4 first team ready players

GK (R Reisser)  - RW (Allan)  - LW - CF

Then 4 future players

RB - CB (Tiago Gabriel) - LB (D Methalie) - CM (I want this to be one of a higher profile like Camara)

My worry is you go from Botman to Burn - neither inspire any confidence tbh

For me these are the signings I would hope we get

GK - Trafford or Risser and a backup GK

RB If Livra stays then just El Ouahdi or Fresnada or Sabbe. If Livra goes replace him with Read or Palestra

CB - Diomande

LB - Methalie and Aguado ( one for the future but can be got for around 6 million as youngsters innl Spain have these low release clauses)

DM Stankovic or Camara

CM Fernandez from Barca again 7.5 mill release clause.

RW Akliouche, Karetsas or Allan

LW Godts or Nusa or Eduardo concaicao

CF Tresoldi or Ramos

Almost a full XI, that would be some going.

I'd like it but after Howe’s comment in the press conference? Or does he not have as much say on the matter as he used to?

Don't think he has 100% control like last summer. I think he will have dinal sign off on some signings but it should be DOF role to sign players.

I think we need fresh young technical players to elevate our play next season. Currently we have 4 creative/technical players at the club. Wolte, Bruno, Hall and Miley

Agree with all of that except Joelinton. Overly harsh on him. We just rush him back and he’s hungry to help the team. Under better circumstances he could be managed fine.

Regarding the noise, think Tonali gives us 12 more months. Tino possibly also but only due to injuries. Wouldn’t be worried about losing either. Tonali more so I suppose.

Joelintons body has been on the wane for a couple of seasons now, and it's not going to get better. Such a shame as he's pushed himself beyond what he can cope with for the club, and is now paying for it. 2 years left in the summer, he won't get a new deal and I think in a year with more injuries we won't get a fee for him, unless he retires to Saudi.

It's a shame you look at a player like him, who has been brilliant for us, a complete turnaround of a player and all he's done, and think we need to shift him because we can't have an asset devalue. Especially when you sign Elanga, Wissa and wolt in 1 window, and play none of them due to various reasons.

He hasn’t inspired much confidence this season - there comes a point where age begins to catch up and you start losing some of your strengths
