Holmesy
This is the point of proceedings where you're like "Fuck's sake, just sign someone. What are you playing at?" and then you realise the window doesn't open for two weeks. We must be up to about 25 rumours so far.

We’re in a place where we have to risks. We have a lot to do, and not a huge amount of funds. Give him a year or two extension with an option of a third or something so he holds his value a bit longer. He's the sort of player a bottom half team would pay £25m for even at 30 as he'd still be good for double-figures. Could easily see someone like West Ham or Wolves fancying him for £28-30m next summer if they came back up, by which point the first new LW would be settled and you could then go for another one to compete. oldtype
All of these people might as well be FM regens to me, but I just want us to sign a first team player so I can start getting unreasonably excited.

And Willock should be move on ideally. I'm hoping this is where we are headed, but not sure Eddie can bring himself to do it. With a more manageable schedule and the imperative that he wins early and often to avoid the dreaded November sacking, I'm guessing he'll stick with his tried and true. BUT... I know it was a sample size of 1, but the front three midfield against WHU of Ramsey, Woltemade, and Barnes was poetry. No clue why he buggered up the lineup for Fulham, but a default, consistent lineup with those three and Bruno and someone similar (if Tonali leaves) in a double pivot type of role would be my dream. Could Miley play CM consistently (barring injury)? I feel like he could but you'd definitely need a Plan B with him.

When we go to the continent we don't really miss.

We also got a good chuck of our money back in the summer. 2. He was great on loan, but clearly the permanent signing didn't work out. 3. Free money. Targett was signed for peanuts and provided roughly peanuts value as a rotation player. Kelly was sold for a profit and again, turned out to be a really good player. Don't think you can classify any of these as scouting failures.

The mental gymnastics people have done to try and defend the Wood signing in particular is exhausting. Add the ones from last summer and its obvious why Eddie's preference for PL players needed to be overruled this summer. oldtype
I mean we literally made free money off of Kelly, even if you account for his wages. Even if he had never played for a single game for the club how is that a failure.
cubaricho
Everyone one of those signings was good for the club in the end.
oldtype
If anything Wood and Kelly are manager failures, not scouting failures. Because clearly there were good players in there that we never figured out how to use. (Osula would have fallen into this bucket as well if we moved him on last summer). SteV
You could argue (quite easily) that Targett has been a failure since he signed permanently. His loan spell was great, but since then he’s barely had a decent game.
