NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

I think we should sign a world class GK and a world class CB to upgrade our defense massively.

For midfielders and forwards, I think almost every new signing in the last 4-5 years failed to make an impact immediately. Here is the long list:

Bruno - fared the best but even he was benched for most of his initial half season

Isak - made some impacts early on but not very consistent, got injured almost immediately and not an undisputed starter vs Wilson, becomes our star player later

Wood - never good for us, but played well anywhere else...

Gordon - had little impact upon arrival, had an excellent 2nd year and average thereafter

Barnes - unconvincing at the beginning, then become a useful rotation option

Tonali - supposed to be a marquee signing but spent more than a year to get into the starting XI regularly

Osula - you may argue that he is young and raw, he clearly didn't make any impact in the first year anyway

Woltemade - showed some flashes of brilliance but not consistent enough

Wissa - terrible start

Elanga - terrible start

Ramsey - unconvincing start

*Anderson (recalled from loan, like a new signing) - never made any significant impact with us

*Miley (promoted from academy, like a new signing) - still not consistent but had some good moments

Just splash the money to strengthen our defense radically, then punt a bit of money on some cheap young players who got a bit of potential like Osula, wait at least until 27/28 for them to make any real impact. I can accept random names like Aluso, Salou and Lusao as long as they don't cost more than £20m. Expensive midfielders/forwards rarely work for us no matter how good they were before signing for us.

The overall point probably holds water, but you’re wrong about Bruno. Had 5 games on the bench to begin with then played virtually forever ever since.

Me too and agreed, but I doubt that's the price he actually goes for.

I've been following the news around Juve quite closely. Seems they're desperate for funds and moreso with them missing out on the Champions League.

They apparently want to get quick cash for David as any money for him is pure profit as they signed him on a free. As he didn't quite fit their setup and so didn't put up the kind of numbers he has previously they can only ask for so much, the fee is consistently being reported as being somewhere around 30 million euros at the most.

In contrast they are also trying to move on Openda too, but as they shelled out around 40 million Euros or so for him, that is more problematic as they are likely to take a big loss there as it went really badly for him at Juve.

Its almost as if players need time to embedd themselves into Howes system & demands... You know, like multiple players have already stated.

That's a decent price if we could get him for that. Worth kicking the tires on and we could probably afford to offer more than the £100k-pw he's currently on to incentivize him.

I was reading that Juve want Vlahović to stay and take a pay cut. They appear to be in a bit of bother, don't they?

Yeah, it's a big pay cut too. Not sure he's going to agree to it, although it will depend on the kind of offers he's being given to go elsewhere as a free agent.

I dont think a striker is massively important but adding goals is. Id be happy with Osula and Nick if we had 15 goals coming from the wing and 10 from the midfield.

We're fucked if we start next season with the strikers we've got.

Would be pretty suicidal to go into the season with the 3 we have imo. Hopefully that’s bollocks.

we were never getting another striker. Howe even said weeks ago we weren’t looking for another striker. None will leave. They’ll look to find a way of fitting Woltemade in and roll the dice on Wissa having a good preseason. We just can’t afford to taking a loss on either of them

Think it'll be Osula if we can get good money for him. Who's going to take Wissa after the season he had?

Don’t think we’ll sell him and even if we do the replacement will be another osula type.

Didn't I read that Hall signed a new 6 year deal a couple of weeks ago with quotes about how happy he was to commit his future to Newcastle?

Oops 😬  that was Lewis Hall, my bad.

Doh doh doh, Miley I meant.

Would be nice to ship him off to Saudi with wages fully covered.

Think he stays to see if he can find form before that happens.

Out of the 3, he's the only one with upside at this stage (not saying I want to see him go). Wissa and Wolt leaving, unless they both have unbelievable WC's, looks less likely as we'd eat hefty losses financially.
