I think the only one to sell at the moment is Longstaff, but he won't raise much money. Anderson too but the same applies. 

 

I would personally give Willock and Joelinton another season at least because their upside is so high.

Since when is Kalvin Philips not mobile?!!! It's only been a year and it seems people have completely forgotten the guy's game.

 

He played in arguably the most dynamic and frenetic team in the league under Biesla. He wouldn't have even been able to feature if he wasn't mobile.

 

And you say he's not very mobile in the slightest?!!! Are you sure you've watched him at all?

I was thinking this when I read that comment 😂😂 He might need to get his sharpness up but there’s no issues with his pace ffs. In fact right now his pace would suit us perfectly to cover a massively shaky back four. People come up with some corkers on here. 
 

I think some people are getting ahead of themselves in terms of who we sign. We aren’t Man City yet and currently Liverpool and Arsenal will have more pulling power (and cash).

The fact he made his reputation in Bielsa’s Leeds team makes me optimistic. Leeds were far more like us stylistically than Man City. On the other hand is does slightly whiff of an Everton/West Ham signing. It’s hard to be opposed to it without knowing the other options and targets in other positions.

Got to say, I'm not a massive fan from what I've seen. However Leeds supporting mates raved over him being all over the pitch in a good way and when Leeds were good it was because of him and he'd have been perfect for us before going to Man City 

 

I'll err to those that saw him most.

I'll err to those that saw him most. 

If Howe could get that Phillips back, the Leeds version he’d provide perfect cover for the back four and Bruno could do what he does without having to worry if he loses the ball there’s a sudden break on to our defence. Doesn't necessarily mean he’ll come here but on recent evidence a player like him is exactly what our midfield needs.

I really find goalkeeper the hardest position to gauge, at least when it come to subtle judgements between those at top end of PL quality. But looking at their careers, Ramsdale has evidently been seen as being as higher quality in the early stages of his career (international appearances across the age groups and two big fees in his early 20s, £18m to SU and £30m to Arsenal). So I assume that even though 6 years younger and still developing he probably is a better keeper with greater potential to still realise.

My only concern would be anything over 6 months and we are looking at Phillips, Bruno, tonali and there's not a great deal of goals or attacking running there that willock/Joe both bring to the team or even the movement of miley

Good point as I do think next summer we need to look at a midfielder who can create something and score goals.

No reason to believe that we would play all three, at least not very often. We need a deep squad, which means routinely having first team quality on the bench.

He's a very good midfielder.

 

He seemingly just hadn't been able to adapt to Peps style of play.

 

At Leeds they were a very high energy pressing team that moved the ball forward at a high tempo. Very different from what Pep does.

 

Like you say though, very well suited to how we play. He'd give us another midfielder with good technique, and an outrageous range of passing.

 

He's also defensively sound, strong and mobile. In fact I would go as far as to say he'd be our best defensive midfielder as far as discipline, positioning and covering the defence.

I worry that the other shoe that drops here is with no CL Bruno is way more likely to have his head turned if a Madrid, PSG or City come in for him and match his release clause.

I mean I hate to break this but any team capable of meeting the clause will have him regardless of where we finish.

Same here. He was a player we would have loved to signed 18 months ago, and I'm one of those who quite likes the idea of a specialist no 6 as long as he's a decent footballer and not just a hard tackler. Still not sure we'll actually sign him though unless we feel Miley is not good enough defensively.

He was terrific for Leeds and also England during that period. If he's used as a holding midfielder he doesn't need to be Usain Bolt. One thing's for sure, he's quicker and stronger than Longstaff

He really isn't, and if we did sign him you'll find out.

Hard to know what he's like now vs pre-Man City. Many a player over the years has gone to teams at the top when their stock is high and never been the same player after.

 

The good sign with Phillips is that on the rare occasions he has made appearances, including recently, he's looked decent, or in the case of for England against Scotland, really good.

West Ham who signed Paqueta, Alvarez and Kudus…3 players who’d start for us mate. Think that analogy doesn’t work anymore to be fair.

If anything I can see his skill levels and composure been improved from a year under Pep, add that to his hard work, ability to get around and break up play and I can see him been a great signing, if the loan fee comes off the price we could have a bargain.

 

He will want to prove people wrong and to be honest our midfield has the consistency of a wet tissue at the moment.

 

If we could get 60 minutes out of him for the first month while he gets up to speed he could make a massive difference to us.

Perhaps, but you can also argue it works as long as it’s not getting them anywhere. Not sure Alvarez is that good though.

I think we need some maturity and experience. He’s a consistent choice for the national squad and he does his job well. It’s an unspectacular job but it’s a really important one.
