Interesting to see what people think of the RW issue now that we want Joe and Joe on the left.

Guess different for different games?

It's certainly taken the pressure off regarding that position.

Think we could potentially look at a talented youngster that won't cost a huge fee, who is good enough to play in the first team when needed, but still has room for growth and won't mind being a rotational option.

Someone like that Jonathan Rowe that was at Norwich, that joined Marseille I think it was.

If we do that for now then review again at the end of the season that would be good.

Better than Ramage - Boumsong - Bramble - Babayaro?

Also a bit harsh on the outstanding performance at Glanford Park of:

Simpson - Taylor - Khizanishvili - Jose Enrique

Incredible that one of those has won the PL.

The issue with finding a new system that works is if it is a new way of playing or masking the underlying issues. I guess only time will tell is Gordon happy being permanently right, will willock stay fit and offer us more than 60mins will big Joe pick up a new injury or have issues with suspensions.

We already have issues with game time for Kelly & Barnes also need players sales really one of miggy or Murphy need to go if trips doesn't give us the season is kraft OK for cover for 2 places or do we need a tino competition.

I guess right now the underlying performer in the 11 is schar so do we go back to looking for a quality addition there?

Do we go for youth so we can increase the quality of the subs bench?

My head hurts thinking about it.

One belter of a cross doesn't eliminate our need for a new RW. Gordon was really impressive against Arsenal, but to me that was mainly due his defensive work rate covering and helping Tino multiple times and pressing Arsenals back line. Other than that one cross he didn't offer much threat going forward compared to what he can from the left.

Ultimately we still need to replace both Almiron and Murphy, so it makes sense to get one good player to do that, meaning we would have Willock, Barnes, Gordon and the new winger to cover the wide positions, plus either Murphy or a youngster as emergency backup.

He nearly scored and with a bit more composure set one up for Willock… so other than those 3 potentially goal scoring moments …

A bad injury to Gordon sees us back to the relative weakness of choice between Miggy, Murphy and Barnes vying for the wide right slot

Goes back to my struggle in my brain then do you buy a starting RW and means you then look to tweak setup again to accommodate Gordon elsewhere or do we stick with Gordon and find someone maybe not as expensive or instant starting 11 so we have a better squad option than miggy or Murphy.

I would sell Barnes. Hes at peak age and barely getting a game. His value will only diminish from here. Take the 30-40 mill we will get for him now. The reinvest that into a starting 11 right winger and a talented young left winger.

I think people need to set reasonable expectations for January. It’s a better time to buy potential (as those players are less likely to be integral parts of competitive teams). There are exceptions, but I’m not sure if a RW of sufficient quality will be available

January for me is all about opportunist signings. Most of the successful ones, are usually players a club has lined up to sign eventually, and cards just happen to align to make that move happen in January.

Giving we have a new structure in place, be surprised if we have players lined up this early, unless it’s someone that Mitchell had data on from previous roles and does back it.

A loan with option to buy feels a risk free roll of dice for RW if everyone is content on waiting till end of season to make some serious moves.

Step forward someone who could be available on loan….

Arda Guler :D

We can't sell Barnes without replacing him. We're fucked if we do and Gordon isn't fit to play. I know we're looking to do the Willock / Joelinton thing on the left but christ, you've got a short memory if you think that's going to be able to happen every week.

I’d replace him with someone 5 years younger and fits the Gordon mould of player.

Agree, but Christ I’ll be more pissed in the short term if we sell Barnes after having lost Anderson due to the panic stations in the summer.

Barnes is such a weird one. He's genuinely been a game changer when he's came off the bench for us and scored some hugely important goals

Yet when he does play poorly in a game he's straight out the team. And his lack of versatility is really unlike most of our signings

He'll be a high earner too and i imagine he's really frustrated by it all.

Unless the original plan was to play Gordon on the right, the Barnes signing is a bizarre one. It makes little to no sense tbh. I can imagine everyone is frustrated by it.

Barnes should still be rotated with Joelinton. Would be insanely dumb to sell him given how short we are on quality forwards.

It's good to be able to have options and keep sides guessing how you're going to play.

Got to hope Barnes is happy to be a rotation option and not kick up a fuss about it

I would say rotate Barnes with Willock. Willock to play 60 mins and Barnes for the last 30 mins.

Rest Willock when needed and let Barnes play to lower the risk of Willock getting injured.

Willock often just last for 60 mins in a game and Barnes is always at his best when he comes on as a sub.

Barnes loves it here FWIW

Can’t imagine him complaining about the super sub role either. He comes across as a professional lad.

doesn't seem like the type to me but could be wrong. I kind of don't think he's been given a fair shot at it either yet. Seems to play well one game, bad the next, then gets taken out of the team.
