Weezertron
Probably from the understanding that we'll have to sell someone who commands a good fee soon if we want to progress. I don't think it'll happen this summer, but someone we love is going in the next year. Not condoning it, but I think thats what it is. Edit: this is in response to the selling barnes narrative. I'd not even entertain an offer less than £75M. That's pretty much double what we paid for him and I don't think anyone would argue he's not twice the player he was then. But realistically if we NEEDED big money this summer and Liverpool/Man City would pay that then I'd certainly give it some good thought. That's crazy money for a full back and there's no shortage of quality in the market for us to replace him. He's an England International as well to. Should rinse more out of them. The College Dropout
1 hour ago, mondonewc said: It's mindblowing to me that people think we should sign a CM over a GK! Pope can go down as a legend for the club for what he's done, but I guarantee no top 6 clubs in the Premier League would want to take him, you can probably go as far as to say top 10, maybe even top 15. Some people massively underestimate the power of an elite GK, it's essential we upgrade our GK in the Summer. If Pope plays 40 games next season and Dubs plays 10 we are fine. Not perfect but we are fine. Longstaff/Willock/Miley will play 40 games next season. It's not fine. We are significantly weaker whenever one of them is on the pitch. Every other good team in this division has a quality CM that is on the bench when everyone is fit.

Tonali is top dogs, Bruno is top dogs, for our system Joelinton is top dogs. We need a physical beast that can play in that 3 without any drop off. That's probably a £40-60m player. If you can get that quality for less, great. After a RW, CB that's the next priority position for me. I think the club will put a goalkeeper and striker ahead of CM, unless the RW can also double as a striker.

Kilcline
You'd think these websites would try a bit harder. Who thinks we'd spend £68 million on a player for one of if not the only position we've already got 2 credible/interchangable options, not to mention he's 27 in the summer and only six months younger than Barnes anyway, when we've got glaring needs elsewhere now or will have in 12 months time. Still they've made me bite so they've done their job
The Butcher
Don't want Eze after THAT pen against us. That's all it takes.
janpawel
So links to Cunha, Semenyo, Eze If the links aren't a load of crap, then seems we want a left sided, athletic, versatile attacking midfielder then? Though feel like the Cunha link is the only legit one

The other two are cold as well and I'd happily welcome them but an athletic & experienced CB is essential imo (alongside a RWer)

Weezertron
I still think we need a smarter transfer policy than going after all the best players from the rest of the premier league, if you believe the papers.
Memphis
If we have learned anything from the last few seasons, it's that Howe prizes versatility more than most. I would imagine that every player we target (apart from Trafford obv) would be able to play multiple positions at a high level. Any rumour involving anyone who doesn't can be immediately dismissed. Memphis
1 minute ago, SteV said: Agree, but I think you can except CB from the list as well. Kind of, but even then you have Dan Burn, who played a very competent LB for ages. Krafth too. And we will need versatility in the system they can play, too. I think it's different but even by CB standards, I still think we want versatile players.
AyeDubbleYoo
I’m not sure. We needed versatility before because we didn’t have 11 PL quality players and/or we had nobody capable of playing a given position competently. Of course it’s nice to be versatile but it’s something a well managed squad should really need that much of IMO.
Sima
Really don't like us being linked to established high profile strikers as the immediate conclusion I draw is that we're selling Isak.
