This has been far from an ideal transfer window but there are mitigating factors at play

 

  • Our infrastructure is shambolic, that's obvious and on the club
  • We are trying for elite players who are also wanted by more established elite clubs.  Perhaps we shot for the moon, ending up in a hole
  • This window has seen over £1 billion spent by 5 clubs who have hoovered up those elite players, paying higher wages
  • And of course PSR, specifically designed to produce the above two points.  It's doing what it was introduced to do, allow the Sky 6 to spend much more than anyone else

Predicating a tweet from Hope on the 29th August - Newcastle thought to be done in this transfer window, maybe 1 outgoing on loan, thought to be a success after keeping hold of Isak.

Hope on the 29th..."EXCLUSIVE...Newcastle are still hoping to get 1 or 2 over the line, but its looking hopefull theyll get their top targets, despite them both joining different clubs earlier in the window. HOWEVER...PSR continues to be an obstacle, so Al Rummyann has been looking down the back if his sofa to give Burnley a few quid not to cancel Dubravkas move...however the Newcastle coaching staff remain reluctant to weaken their embarrassingly shallow pool of goalkeepers

PSR, the market, Mitchell, couldn’t get the “right” player etc. 

 

As an aside, it definitely feels like there was a lot more interviews from him last summer. This summer it’s just match based ones.

Newcastle United are considering a move for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa.

 

The 21-year-old is high among the small number of options Newcastle are considering to bolster their attack this summer after missing out on several targets.

 

The club are yet to make a formal approach and there is no guarantee that the move will happen, but Aghehowa is a player liked by Newcastle.

 

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolverhampton Wanderer’s Jorgen Strand Larsen are also considered options for the Tyneside club. Wolves, however, consider Strand Larsen as not for sale.
