NUFC Transfer Rumours

Apart from Isak which I don’t think he had much involvement with he had a pretty quiet summer then? I’d say he was a bit more qualified than Andy in dealing with incomings as well.

From the sounds of it they were all spinning multiple plates, understandably struggled through lack of experience and overwork, and then Jamie Reuben only got involved right near the end with Sesko, Woltemade, and Isak, and PIF only got involved with Isak. Mad that Reuben and PIF completely escaped the blame and the people who stepped up took all the flack.

Both should take the blame. PIF and Reubens for letting it drift for so long with Eales and Mitchell when they were already clearly on their way out.

The people who stepped up for signing players who were not scouted thoroughly, overpriced, or not suited to our style of play. That surprised me tbh, because Howe has always been reluctant to sign players he thinks won't fit his ethos.

Feeling good with Wilson in place. Some good links finally coming through

Last summer started with links to Ekitike, Pedro, Trafford, Delap, Mbueno, Sesko to name but a few

Think we ended up in a do or die situation with Isak and Wilson leaving and a daft amount of replacements (that all would have been brilliant) going elsewhere.

Wissa is one that still absolutely made sense too, it just ended up being a disaster this season for a few reasons.

It looked sensible = we ignored or didn’t realize all the risks behind.

I dunno, I think him getting an MCL despite having this injury record is something you can't really mitigate for.

I dunno what happened, but with hindsight we should have banned him from international duty when he'd no pre-season. You could probably argue that we should have moved on when he went on strike too tbf. All easy to say with hindsight though.

I don’t think that injury is THAT bad. It’s more about his attitude.

if that injury has such an impact that makes him a totally different player, I dont think Howe will immediately start him and drop Woltemade back at Dec. It doesn’t make sense.

Tbf, I backed overpaying for Wissa because I thought it was worth it to get a ready made replacement. But if he's fit (according to Howe) we've clearly got something badly wrong in our research on his suitability for our club.

Woltemade just looks a bad fit, and with Elanga, it's the club that's a bad fit IMO.

Wissa absolutely did NOT make sense at the price we ended up paying for him.

In fact there were multiple red flags that were ignored due to our desperation.

Wissa looked a good fit, as did JSL. Due to the situation we were we were always going to grossly overpay for either.

The biggest red flag for me was the striking and resulting lack or pre-season. It's kiboshed his and to an extent our season.

I feel like a recommendation from Nickson is one of the biggest endorsements you can have.

There have been some exciting links, which is to some extent reassuring, but many a slip twix cup and lip.

Romano says we are talking to Karim Coulibaly.

So that is Coulibaly (18), Ibrahima Ba (20) and Josh Acheampong (19) all linked today. We must be in the market for another CB that can offer use cover at full back.

Hmm I don't agree like. A player who had just bagged 20 goals in the league, could play across the front line, good positioning, can score tap ins and from range, decent enough in the air, with a very good shot conversion rate, good record against the big boys, and an amazing injury record.

He was 29 obviously and we did pay a premium, but the idea was that he was supposed to be plug and play.

I don't think it was a bad move without the benefit of hindsight. Maybe when he went on strike we should have reassessed though, but we were in a bad position where we had a guaranteed 20-30 goals leaving and a 1 in 2.5ish back up (when he played) leaving as well. Wissa was the obvious plug and play replacement really.

I don't think we'd be arsed about paying a bit over the odds if it had worked as planned and I don't think anyone thought it would have gone as bad as it has.

Looking at talented ones it seems.

Obviously rumours are just rumours but I like the noises coming out - if there’s any truth to them, it’s signals the direction I think most of hoped we’d go in. Exciting times!
