We must be in the market for another CB that can offer use cover at full back. The biggest red flag for me was the striking and resulting lack or pre-season. It's kiboshed his and to an extent our season. The biggest red flag for me was that they're both not very good footballers.

I will say one thing, the fact most of the links seem to be younger players is probably a good sign. Wages won't be as high and less likely to be blown away by Cartel. Of course they are just links, but like trying to shop in the same market as them was probably never going to end well. Exciting times! Honestly find it difficult to feel too excited about any rumours at this stage. Last summer's transfer window really did a number on me, but hopefully by the time June rolls around the mojo will be back. I am absolutely on board with signing talented teenagers, but I don't see Eddie throwing them into the ring in a hurry. Assuming he's still here obviously. Yeah, I think that’s going to be hard to shake for all of us until we see change. Positive noises are a good start though.

To the point of causing a huge dilemma on the Rock. Folarin Balogun is no longer the same player. On alternating current last season, the American striker has found his click since the arrival of Sébastien Pocognoli on the bench of AS Monaco, scoring goals and assists in all competitions. Far from the doubts of last summer, the 24-year-old striker has become the strong man of the Monegasque attack. Pocognoli, "magician" of Balogun... Newcastle in the ranks Recruited to succeed Adi Hütter, Sébastien Pocognoli initially had a mixed start before gradually transforming ASM into a well-oiled machine. The current dynamic, driven in particular by Balogun (15 goals and 5 assists in 36 games in all competitions), has totally changed the view of the €30 million recruitment made in 2023 from Arsenal, long considered disappointing before this late explosion. And the least we can say is that the link between the two men is obvious. Balogun no longer hides his admiration for his coach, going so far as to call him a "magician". For his part, Pocognoli insists on the seriousness of his striker and on the work done to put him back to his best level. As a result, the value of the American international, under contract until 2028, is skyrocketing. Transfermarkt values him at around €30 million, but it seems difficult to imagine Monaco opening the door to this price, as the Premier League begins to look into his case again. According to our information, Newcastle, who are clearly not convinced by Yoane Wissa, are very interested in the idea of recruiting Folarin Balogun next summer. For its part, ASM would be willing to sit around the negotiating table in the event of offers in excess of €40 million.

Mike
If I trusted myself to hire people capable of spotting players that can grow to be the spine of our squad for 5+ years or go for far more than 40 million after they've grown in the game, then yeah. The days of finding Schar in a bag on the highway are done.
