NUFC Transfer Rumours

Championship player of the season - may not make the grade in the PL but the right age to see if he could. Not like for like for Tonali, no. But seems a good prospect for whoever gets him.

It'd be nice to get a replacement for Tonali sorted before he goes.

We have rough holes in the squad without having to replace players.

The journo narrative appears to be sell to buy or 1 out 1 in approach, this might like their guesses over our budgets in previous windows turn out to be bollocks but we may have to consider it to be true. The keeper was brought in after we didn't activate Ramsdales option to buy and the young Spanish lad is coming in (hopefully) off the back of Gordon going.

You could twist it and say we aren't getting a Tonali replacement as we do have a lot already to do and he simply hasn't left yet as no one has bid our assumed value.

Both approaches have the downside us having an apparent "war chest" over big sales will make haggling and wheeling and dealing harder you would imagine but will also allow us to only focus our recruitment on the next essential need/purchase.

lets hope things and personnel are in place to be able to pivot and do multiple deals at once unlike last summer.

I think Miley is better than Tonali

Got overshadowed by his cameos at right back, but I thought he looked absolute mustard when he played at CM last season. He needs to be starting next season.

Surely with Gordon gone for decent money and only spending half of it on his replacement in Munoz, we have wiggle room to bring in a Tonali replacement before letting him go and letting the world know we cash rich?

Probably over simplifying it but you get my point.

My dream is that we use half the Tonali money on a replacement, and half on a huge prospect of a right winger. Murphy or Elanga can go on loan for all I care after that.

I do get your point but some of our purchases I think we all agree we need have to be done with no player sale from that position to help fund them so for instance:

Trips left for free we need a back up.

Targett left for free we need a back up.

Pope is expendable it seems his fee if we get one will not cover the cost of his direct replacement.

Schar and BDB are on final years of their deals if we think about any CB cover (I dont think we will too much to do) it will not be funded through their sales.

So while we havent utilised all of the money from Gordon some of our work in the market needs to likely come from wiggle room brought from sales in other positions.

Tonali will likely be no exception if Tonali goes for 90m I dont see us spending all 90m on his replacement it will likely go towards offsetting 2 or more positions.

These are only my guesses on the basis of squad cost rules coming in, the sanction coming from breaking the finance rules in europe and whatever deal we have agreed to under that and the poor league campaign/ no europe next season which will impact our general spending power. Also added in the massive ineffective spend of last summer.

Also if Tonali is not as harsh as the rat and wont kick up a stink and no one hits our value I wouldnt be happy spending 40/50m on his replacement and find hes still here come next season (as extremely unlikely as it appears at this point).

He reminds me of how (edit!) Jacob Ramsey was when he first signed.

Camara has just aimlessly followed play without getting involved. Hes been a spectator.

Didn't see the game, but might that not be affected by his team mates lack of quality? Up against the best side in the world the Senegal midfield as a whole probably didn't function that well.

I was expecting Camara to be either sitting deeper like a DM, or playing wider and being box to box. Whenever they got the ball though he seemed to try to move into the space between France’s midfield and defence. I don’t think it really worked and he ended up getting caught out a lot. I’m prepared to put it down to tactical nonsense on this occasion.

It'll be The Year of Miley, as the Lightning Seeds almost said.

Got to be a chant there, such an easy instrumental that everyone knows to do do do to

That could well be the case, but from what I saw he didnt move into space very well, or he didnt tackle. He lind of just jogged up to someone and stood off them until they made their pass and then jogged on somewhere else.

He just looked like he was playing without any conviction and never stood out as even half decent.

Its the only time I've seen him play though, and that could have easily been a one-off.

As I say, Ramsey did that when he first joined us, but has really picked up his game since.

To replace Tonali we would need to spend all the money to get someone as good - not really worth it. Opposing teams won’t need to play through a Bruno / Miley midfield they will just run past them knowing they aren’t going to get caught.

We only need to spend £80m to replace Tonali if our scouts are shit.

This is it. What does Tonali bring to the team in his current guise? Goals? Not really. Creativity? Not really. Craft? Not really.
His energy and ground coverage is his biggest asset and it's important but replacing that is easier than replacing Bruno's contribution, for example.

If we can spend £50m to bring in someone who matches his energy but chips in with more end product, we're net better off.

It would help if Tonali isn't there giving the ball to them in the first place.
