Yep, it’s disappointing that Tripps wants out but he’s helped raise the profile of the club.

We need some leaders to step into that void because his influence is massive on the pitch.

If Wilson leaves I wouldn’t be massively disappointed, he’s injury prone and misses as much as he plays. Needs a run of games to get sharp too which is hard when you have someone like Isak playing.

As Eales mentioned, selling someone for 50 million opens up a chance where you could spend 50m on 4 or 5 different players so there could well be a bit of a spree at the end of the window.

Our losses would still have us fucked for points deductions though spending that much this season

Didn’t Yasir Al-Rumayyan say in the Amazon documentary say that the aim this season was to improve on last seasons finish?

They clearly want to take the club places and are doing that off the pitch, the performances are down to the manager and the players and whilst they can say that injuries have derailed the first half of the season, there are still things that are holding us back, like going in to the season with Burn and Almiron as first choice players.

The aim and the bottom line minimum expectation ‘do not achieve at your peril’ are two different things though.

If the manager didn’t have limitations put on him (FFP) them do you really think they’d still be playing?

Tonali and Barnes was like 75% of summer spend, and they give us nothing so far basically. this cannot happen any other transfer window going forward.

not our fault we cannot rely on them but we cannot afford this.

It’s just bad luck. You can’t control the uncontrollables. Unlikely we will have such a run of injuries (and a ban) again.

Can't lie, I'm kind of looking forward to the next evolution of the team.

Think it is absolutely necessary to take the next step. A big part of becoming successful is going to be getting the timing right on moving on from certain players. Necessary evil.

Christ, Barnes got a freak injury, how can you avoid that when signing a player in the summer? [emoji38]

The perfect time to move out a few of our players will be this summer. Interested so see what we do and how ruthless we will be.

Yeah, I've said previously that the way this season panned out is likely to see a more ruthless approach to moving players on, as the squad still needs significant work, so there'll be no room for niceties.

And sure, summer would be ideal, but if great offers come in this January and a player/players we like can be brought in at the right value, then not adverse to us striking while the iron is hot.

We do have limitations though and knew that when putting together our summer spending plans.

We signed Barnes when we had bought Gordon in the previous window and Joelinton who was one of our better players wide left last season, that money should have been spent upgrading the right side of midfield.

These players would not get anywhere near another starting eleven team challenging for the top four, yet we think we can achieve it again with them starting week in week out.

It was always going to happen. Alternative is we stagnate on the pitch and hope we can overcome PSR with commercial deals and prize money alone.

It feels like to me like the club have identified Botman, Bruno and Isak as the core of the next iteration of the team. They’ll not be going anywhere (save for an absolutely astronomical bid on our terms). Challenge now is finding players of a similar profile with a similar ceiling. We’ve already got a couple in Tino and Gordon (Tonali and Barnes tbc), but doing that on a larger scale necessitates player trading.

It took Gordon six months to adapt to our style and he’s English!

It might be little shock the first game you play in the PL, but its the language and the managers style you need to adapt (wich was Tonalis problem). As you say Gordon is english and wasnt ready at all.
