Tino Livramento

He has so many good attributes. But whoever it was (Southampton fans?) saying he will become more of a Bale type couldn’t be more wrong. He is so bad in the final third. Actually annoying how wasteful he is every time he gets near the other box.

Whats up with this guy this season? Been proper off. You'd think he would've capitalised on the fact that Trippier's declining but its not been the case at all.

I think it's a lot to do with how weak our right hand side has been.  Murphy and Miggy have got worse and Tonlai is still settling in

He's shown some real positives that have unfortunately been undone and undermined by his failings in the final third.

He uses his power and pace really well to carry the ball into dangerous areas, but unfortunately whenever he gets into them his delivery has been poor.

If he can sort out the delivery, he could be a quality player and a source of a lot of goals for us as he gets himself into positions that few others seem to be able to do.

As with a frustratingly high number of players in our squad, his passing can be quite sloppy, too.

He's a good full back, but trippier was a heliocentric offensive threat, everything went through him. Its not a like for like replacement and I think its unfair to ever compare him. Livra not looking great is on Howe and the coaching staff to sort out imo.

He'll look miles better with a quality RW in front of him.

Offensively his strength is running the ball up the pitch. What you would normally get with that is a midfielder hanging back and covering the space he’s left. None of our CMs do this (on the right, JL will cover down the left). Think our lack of defensive action in the midfield makes him wary. Justifiably so.

This is it for me.  I think he is an outstanding defender.  Covers well on crosses, has strength and pace, he is quite aggressive 1 v 1.  He uses some of those attributes getting up the pitch, too.

I just think he always looks rushed, panicked and unsure on what to do when he approaches the box.  Often making the wrong decision, or worse, no decision at all and we lose it.

The above example has Krafth in at right back rather than Livramento, but I do wonder whether we can make a tweak so that instead of Hall playing deeper and forming a 3 it could be Livramento doing it from the right side instead, so that Hall could play more advanced and with more creative freedom. Think this would suit each of their skillsets better - Livramento is a better 1v1 defender and has more covering pace, Hall has much more ability on the ball in the final third.

And Schar hasn't been the same of previous seasons either.

Compare to left where Hall regularly has Burn / Joelinton / Gordon, it's levels for protection.

Which side do teams mostly attack against us? Does the stats show it's down Tino side? As that would be the side I'd attack, because the pace isn't there and quality lower.

Trippier looked like the best RB in the world for 12 months with Almiron/Murphy/Longstaff around him. I'm not sure how much you can blame Livramento's poor performances on them, if at all.

Trippier looked like the best RB in the world in that period because he very possibly was the best RB in the world in that period. It's too much to ask of Livramento at this stage.

Love Tino but not been at his best this term.

The passing can be poor. And he’s not dribbling as much.   The final ball is bad too.   The defensive side of the game is solid.  But he’s not struck up a good relationship down the right at all (Tonali, Longstaff, Murphy).  He looks marginally better behind Almiron who gives him more movement and space to run into imo.

I know what you mean but that's not really the point I was making. I'm not expecting Livramento to be peak Trippier for various reasons, but I'm just trying to highlight that individually I find it difficult to use him being surrounded by poor players as an excuse for basic errors and poor performances considering that this didn't seem to effect Trippier (or indeed Krafth whenever called upon tbf).

I do think the technical limitations of Tino, Murphy & Longstaff doesn’t help any of them.  The build up is painful to watch at times.

Some of that is coaching too.

Yeah, fair enough. I probably took your post a bit out of context. I do view his regression as being more a product of our overall system's failings, though. We've looked lacking in so many ways in the final third for a long time now, so I'm reluctant to blame Tino for his part in it too much.

yeah, I'd agree some of it is tactical. We have seen Livramento play well individually with the same/similar tactics and personnel last season though. He has some work to do.
