His touch is as sure as most and his first touch this afternoon for the winner epitomises that. He's not going to pull out a couple of stepovers or a flip-flap, but he's technically sound. I was going to say the same thing. His winner yesterday was following a world class first touch that destroyed Kalvin Phillips followed by an absolute arrow into the far corner. How that isn't considered skillful is beyond me.

You might score a few and go on a bit of a run without ever looking comfortable. Barnes is a fairly average PL winger but his movement and finishing is top class, you can’t coach that, the winner was a thing of beauty. I loved maxi, but the stats for minutes on the pitch for goals between him and Barnes tells a lot Seems to like the gallowgate as well Barnes

It's like a one off situation in life where it happens. When that goal goes in it's proper celebrations. Crowd seems to go wild.

Bring in a top class RW option and let Gordon, Barnes and the new signing rotate the three spots. I think I'd like to see Minteh stay with us next season. Could see him being a cracking option off the bench in the last 20 minutes of games. Will depend on whether we have European football though. Agreed, although i'd throw big Joe in that rotation too. I love him on the left.

STM
The kid knows where the onion bag is. Neither Shearer nor Lampard were "skillfull", in that sense but what Barnes lacks in technical skills while running with the ball, he makes up for by having a superb footballing brain. He's basically the opposite of ASM.
Ste
I was watching a video the other day where Harry Kane was talking about how important the touch is to set the shot up. Barnes does it really well for both of his goals, first touch sets him up for the shot that he wants to take.

TheInfiniteOdyssey
Always seems to get a good connection on the ball whenever he takes the shot on - one touch, two touch or whatever. A great quality to have from a wide forward.
LionOfGosforth
His skill in setting up the space for the shot reminded me of a training ground scene in the Simeone documentary on Amazon where he was teaching the nuances of receiving the ball in a tight space and how turning your body a certain way can make the difference in getting off a pass or shot. Then having the confidence to lace it from 20 yards after being out for most of the season was great to see. AG deserves enormous credit for the hold-up play just prior as well
nufcjmc
hope being able to shoot from distance isnt coached out of him, we have always played to get into a good position to then recycle the ball to try and confuse/free up more space etc, the number of touches in their box yesterday is testament that at times we want to almost walk it into the goal. I get if a shot from distance can see the opposition quickly move up field the other way but when its a low block and chaotic anything can happen.
