I’m thinking he finally did what no one else had the balls to do and choose his team. Like he didn’t bring just names, he sees players he wants in his system not just the players with the biggest reputations.

It was always wild to me to watch y'all try and have Gerrard and Lampard in the same team and it continually not work but no one had the balls to drop one of them for the betterment of the team.

This is what’s being peddled in the media now, but it just doesn’t add up for me because of Ivan Toney’s inclusion. I don’t really think it’s that egregious that Hall didn’t make the squad, but if this is Tuchel picking ‘his team’ over just picking names, then why has he suddenly decided Toney is his man after a year of ignoring him. To me it just reads like an edgy bloke thinking he’s smarter than he is, trying to craft a squad that can compete in x different game scenarios, but I just don’t know how that translates to making a “team”. Teams require cohesion and this squad doesn’t show cohesion to me.

I guess we’ll see, happy to be proven wrong. Though not wildly pleased that the one game I’m going to will likely see me pay several hundred dollars to watch Madueke, Quansah, Toney et al.

Honestly, he's a fantastic left back and has pocketed all but 2-5 players he's come up against this season. His box defending, 1 v 1 defending and reading of game have come on leaps and bounds this season. His area of improvement is actually being more decisive in attack and trusting his own skills more (imo). He is a LB/LWB 100%. Don't think he should be playing in midfield or as a winger.

He’s talented enough to play LB or midfield. Personally though I want him to stay at LB. He is absolutely critical to us breaking through the press from defence. No one else is able to do it, although Thiaw can play some nice passes and Tino can drive well into space. He’s my favourite current NUFC player, having taken the crown from Joelinton this season

Maybes tuchel had a word with eddie about hall and he said "he's a little twat"   to get burn in the squad. 😂

Botman was great at it first season. Gasping for him to get back to his best.

Aye, his passing was massively wayward this season. He seems to have gotten slower too. Given his injuries he’d be a player I’d seriously consider selling this summer if there was a good bid in. His lack of recovery pace massively exposes Thiaw. However, it is very low priority and I do think he can get back to being top quality if he stays injury-free. His aerial ability, reading of the game and physicality in duels are all still great

Think Toney is included cause he knows where the goal is, will push the other forwards and is a fantastic penalty taker. We will likely have one or two penalty shoot outs on the biggest stage in the world. We will need him and he has his place. Its weird but it makes sense.

People say his form has been poor recently which is why he was dropped but wasn't it just the game at the Nou Camp (where the whole team had a mare) and a half against Bournemouth?

Can't remember much else he's done wrong all season at left back

At fault against Bournemouth for the first goal and apparently ignoring coaches is where it all started recently

Hall should be going over Tino.

On recent form I agree. Tino hasn’t been at 100% since he came back from injury (last time). I do think though when they are both 100% Tino probably just edges it. Maybe not next season when Hall has another year’s development. He may well have a higher ceiling. Certainly shown enough confidence and promise; not many full backs have played that well against Yamal. Really thought they would both be going to the World Cup and would be England’s full back pairing. Maybe next season.

Hope you enjoy it anyway man. What a great notch on your life experience belt. Especially if you get to see some NUFC representation on the pitch.

Did feel wingers got in behind him a little too much for liking. Remember him being very quiet against Sunderland to be kind.

You are right there hasn’t been glaring problems defensively with him. Maybe though more subtle ones throughout the season that we care to remember.

Yes he had a dip in form, but who didnt this season (Thiaw got plenty of fuck ups this season, but still good)? I want to forget this season and have zoned out completely but I still remember he had several motm performances.

Yeah, you have to admire him for it in a way. Someone was always going to miss out - we can't take four #10's and have a balanced squad. Dropping Hall in favour of Spence is a proper head-scratcher though, and probably the one decision that's difficult to find any justification for (all bias aside). Maguire, ok. Trent - can't defend so ok. Foden and Palmer - harsh but Morgan and Bellingham are both class.

Picking a load of players either coming back from injury or made of glass could be the thing that comes back to bite him most though.

Tuchel was there as well, wasn't he? Mental.

If Rayan had sauntered past Burn the way he did Hall, people would have been crying for the rest of the year. I like Hall but his form has been up and down as you’d expect in such a season. Tino probably got the nod for England because he offers cover in both full back positions.

His main strength is getting to the by-line and whipping crosses in, or getting the ball out of his feet and slinging them in from deep.

Right back makes no sense, particularly as he's very one footed so always makes the pitch narrow on that side

He might fancy playing in his favoured position with a couple of decent footballers to pass to next season.

Get the feeling there may be some truth in him wanting away, it can't be fun at the minute playing in our back line.

I mean we had two rightbacks on the bench in tripps and shahar so no need to put him over there.

The problem is he wants burn in the team and doesn't mind playing players out of position to the teams detriment.
