When we get linked to some players, it's clear as day we'd never be interested and it's just agents / selling club trying to drive up wage and transfer fees for the actual buyer by scaring them into shelling out more money faster.

No reason to think the same isn't happening here.

Weirdly, Chelsea being linked with Trafford gives me a bit more confidence in him

Always found it odd he has no other links to clubs, never mind links to big clubs

If we are fancying him to become World class/very good, England's no.1 in due course (which I'd hope for, our previous young English singings have been exceptional, Hall/Tino etc)

Then I am suprised there isn't loads of interest in him

Have you seen Chelsea’s record of keepers signed recently ? [emoji38]

We also did that level of work on Tosin

We did, but I think Chelsea were doing it as well. Feels like we have been invested in Trafford for a lot longer than Chelsea, although I might be wrong.

Anyway, what will be will be. If he chooses Chelsea then that's where he should be.

Would not be surprised if he did end up at Chelsea - higher wages and played with Colwill, Madueke and Palmer when England won the U21 Euros. He will feel that he is a chance to oust the current goalkeepers there too.

Not really arsed, pretty sure we have done plenty of work already on this deal, if he's moving he's probably coming here.

Does it really matter how much work we’ve done on the deal though in reality? It could be seen as we’ve done everyone’s homework for them and they just hand it in by trumping our wage offer and contract length.

That's life. I guess it reflects on our position in the hierarchy of football more than anything else. I doubt there's much we can do differently other than shop in a different market.

Just like Delap, they will sign another GK. Just look at how many they’ve signed in recent seasons :D

Smaller pool of players to go for at the top table too.

Yep. There's only so many players who can make a difference at that level, that's why the ones at the top will pay stupid wages to get their signatures.

I was going to say that the lad is a northern boy and he might be happier to stay up norf, but when wikitrawling, I saw that according to some 10 year old article... he's a Chelsea fan.

https://www.timesandstar.co.uk/sport/17030219.james-12-signs-for-mega-rich-man-city/

"His pals at Cockermouth School threw a surprise leaving party when he opted to sign for City, while the 12-year-old - a Chelsea fan - says he is undaunted by the big move."
