He didn't say our recruitment wasn't fit for purpose, but our transfer policy. He was right, because we've paid for that policy the last three windows by not having the leeway to buy players and staying within PSR requirements.

He was right on the transfer policy imo.

I find it so weird reading all these posts about a made up Howe power move, Mitchell being shit at his job (and bald) despite having nothing to work with (unless you make up in your mind that we had a billion to spend because there were rumours that we put a high bid in for Guehi), wild theories of constant drama behind the scenes, plots from Mitchell and Eales to stab Howe in the back, them being complete opposites and butting heads all the time. None of us has a fucking clue how it was behind the scenes, and all they've communicated from the club themselves throughout has been that they had a good relationship.

If you just didn't like him because of vibes, just say so instead of making up stories to justify why you didn't like him

Not sad to see him go personally, although I'd prefer we had someone in place to challenge Howe a bit more. If we have a decent scouting team assisting Howe and others whom may be involved in the recruitment process I think we'll be fine. When the time comes and Howe is finished here, we'll have a bit of a challenge setting up a new system, but hopefully that's not relevant for the next 15-20 years.

All the drama aside, its canny funny that Eddie came out from a serious illness suggesting he needs to manage his obsessiveness towards work for his own health.

Is now Coach and Sporting director [emoji38]

I think maybe not being able to obsess over everything made him ill. That's what he meant [emoji38]

Filling the void with noise and platitudes to cover for the fact that he, like 100% of the other journos and ITK’s, were caught spectacularly off guard with this one.

None of them know anything.

apparently according to a mate who was hobnobbing in corporate after the everton game, mitchell was discussing his plans for the summer (in general, no specific players mentioned)  and seemed really excited.

this was all before Eddie had his meeting with Yasir.

Yep, it's mental, ironically you've kind of bought into it yourself by accepting that Howe needs to be challenged.

That's actually a very fair comment I hadn't thought about. Although your point is still valid, I'd like to clarify that I said that, not due to me constructing fictional scenarios on how things are behind the scenes, but based my observation on the type of players we've bought under Howe before Mitchell joined and his loyalty to certain players I've felt have been standing in the way of others. That's still me assuming things on Howes behalf so fair play, point taken.

Watched the Geordie Journo’s video on this and they state this has been cooking for a long time and it was a matter of when rather than if. Seem to be rumours amongst journalists for months that he was ruffling too many feathers and not a great fit.

‘We knew all about it, but didn’t say anything about it, even though we would normally report on every daft rumour ever’

They’re Absolutely full of shite

Here's what he actually said:

"Should our scouting and recruitment be driven more extensively with a wider reaching net? It definitely should, because this is becoming a really nuanced space now, when you can't just capitally fund everything every year and buy loads of players at peak age and peak price. Of course it needs to be, and that's the responsibility of me, the scouting team and Eddie (Howe).

"Is it fit for purpose? Not last winter gone, the winter before that. Is it fit for purpose in the modern game? Because other clubs that have adopted a different approach over time, with more intelligence, more data-informed than we are, actually prospered in this window. That's where we have to grow to be now."

Firstly, he was specifically talking about our "scouting and recruitment" and clearly indicated that it was not intelligent or data informed enough.

Secondly, in terms of strategy, we haven't been buying at peak age and price.

Bruno, Isak, Botman, Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Minteh all bought at a young age with room to develop and all significantly increased in value

Arguably Barnes could meet the peak age and price definition, but his form in the least few months might have changed that.

Burn was possibly peak age and price but has made a massive contribution to us

Targett is the only real first team signing that could be definitely be said of.

Didn't listen to it myself, but Hope apparently said the recruitment plans will revert to Howe, Nickson and Andy.

Also, the CEO appointment should make progress over the summer and the announcement of the stadium move is imminent.

CEO and stadium may be far more important than DoF in the big picture. They will affect revenue, which determines our transfer budget.

I would be more concerned about DoF if we were in a situation where we had doubts about Howe or someone was likely to come and poach him. The most likely suitor, England, is off the table for a while. Arsenal had a huge dropoff this year, 15 points and 30GD down, but the idea of them even remotely considering Howe will still sound ludicrous to most people, even those who sat through us outplaying them (with Callum Wilson!) for most of the match two weeks ago.

Heading into this window, it doesn’t seem like this will have any impact on incomings which is a positive. Wonder if it does impact on potential sales, always feel this is where you need a good sporting director.

Such a good point, and a huge concern for me.

We are so bad at moving players on at the right time and getting decent money for them.

Under Mitchell we saw some promising progress in this area with the Almiron and Kelly moves.

Just hope the folks still there learnt from that.

So Mitchell has a month to get them out

When I first saw the headline it was a case of WTF? but now it does appear to be a genuinely amicable separation and with little/no predicted adverse affect on the plan for this window. All leaves me asking the question: why is he leaving? The only guess I can make is that due to Eddie’s outstanding performance again this season there could be some ‘going over Mitchell’s head’ between EH and Eales/PIF?

Mitchell always comes across well in interviews but as mentioned above, some internet crackpot ITK is far more believable than the true source itself for information for many people.
