That's how it appears to be yes, but let's see how it plays out. Maybe I'm totally wrong and he's leaving because Eales is. If so you'd expect a like for like replacement who's heavily involved in transfers.

can’t see that happening personally. My take is it’ll be nickson alongside a technical director who will replace the sporting director position.

We need a sporting director but it seems we need one who's happy to hand over power to Howe on a number of things.  They will basically mean we'll not get a top one at all.

For better or for worse this is how it must be.

Eddie wants it to all to be on him, and so there is no point forcing a high profile DOF in there.

Will have to be the longer term strategy after Howe leaves.

Will mean a bigger restart/reset at that point to some extent, but just how it is.

So, Nickson buys the players Eddie tells him to and a new hire to oversee the other areas of the club?

yeah, without the ‘Eddie tells him to’ part. They seem very aligned, so it’ll

be more symbiotic (is that the right word?) than Mitchell ever was.

Inside the Newcastle United summer transfer summit at Alnwick Castle. YAR, joined by Eddie Howe, Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell, among others, sit around an imposing table. A 65 inch TV at the end of the table displays this thread. YAR, turning his head of Mitchell, begins reeling off a selection of comments...

Add Mitchell to the list along Cantona who didnt want any bother from David Batty

jokes aside I don't have the recall to remember if he was hand picked by Eales or not. Darren having to bow out with (the terrifying sounding) blood cancer might have signaled an early end in that case. He stayed to see out the season but usually backroom/staff shakeups aren't singular

I saw Paul Mitchell outside of SJP last week, and he said that theirs not long until we find out who are targets/signings will be.

I fully expect them to try and get some signings in for the initial 10 days of the transfer window opening.

A chat with Will and Stifler and he’s done a runner.

Wow

WOOOOOOOOOW!

Pure conjecture - I think Howe has pulled rank and killed him.

Mitchell was talking too spicy about the previous work imo. I think he wanted to make big changes. I agreed with the sentiment at the time.

Eddie and co. have vindicated every previous decision by winning that cup and qualifying for the CL. You can’t change that approach significantly now.  Big marquee signings mostly from abroad, elite youngsters and floor raising proven PL players that fit Eddie’s specific style of football. He needs more of that.

We are living and dying behind Eddie Howe. I can live with that as long as he’s credibly challenged in the transfer market.  But there has to be alignment. Not what Mitchell was proposing which was a break from what has worked a treat.

Dont think its Howe pulling rank, as Mitchell was technically above him...Think its more likely the PIF management have taken his comments as an insult to their competence, and have watched him like a hawk since then and not liked what theyve seen. Just my thoughts, could be anything...not a single one of us knows what goes on when those board room doors close
