I feel Isak will go in the summer and probably with Bruno - Then the rebuilt starts.

Not sure about Bruno but Isak is starting to feel inevitable. Europe is looking a long way off now.

I cant blame him either. He is 25 - he is an amazing attacking player. And honestly if we can get 120 for him, it will be worth it to do our rebuild.

Decent article.

I wish we'd followed Forrests example, spent what we wanted, take the points hit and move on. Wouldn't have made a difference last season and started this with a stronger squad. Working well for Forrest.

I get the pessimism. But there's still 23 games still to play this season, were still 4 games away from being half way through the season and 5 points off European places.

Yes it's not looking great currently, but I'm not ready to write the season off yet just because we've had an inconsistent first 15 games.

Who's to say with a bit of luck with injuries, perhaps some movement in the January window we couldn't go on a good run of results and rapidly climb the table. Apart from Liverpool and now Possibly Chelsea, no other team is putting consistent runs together and we've seen how tight the table is and how quickly things could turn around.

I bet very few would have thought we'd finish in the top 7 around January or whenever last year when we were on a bad run. I've seen us have strong 2nd halves of seasons in the past and make late runs for European positions. Glen Roeder in 05/06 brings a wry smile when I think about it and the doom and gloom of the Souness era that preceded it.

Here here, I think a few new faces in January could transform our season, Eddie has 5 games between now and then unfortunately if he doesn't do well in those I don't think he'll be here by the time the window opens.

I can't see us binning him if we beat Brentford next week but then again Spurs sacked Mourinho just before a final never mind semi finals!

They didn’t really ‘spend what they wanted’ though.

They complied with FFP, just not in time for the deadline, due to them selling Brennan Johnson a month or so later to get a better price for him.

It would have been like us hanging on to Minteh for a bit longer, then getting £40m instead of £30m for him. Which in the grand scheme of things, would hardly have been worth a points deduction.

I'm a massive Howe fan but if we are out of the cup and lose those other fixtures Mitchell might be ringing his mate Poch.

I agree with teams beating each other, in theory it wouldn't take that much to put us right back in there. What puts doubt in my mind is we have looked disjointed all season, and because we've dropped a lot of points to substandard teams, those will be harder to make up in the second half of the season.

Isn’t that the case with nearly everyone outside of the current top 4 (and even Man City you could argue)

Yes, but I can only call it on what we are showing so far this season, and that has us not playing very well and sitting 12th in the table.

Depends how you want to spin it. We’re playing (very) inconsistently, even within matches. Granted, probably veering more towards bad than good  considering the season as a whole.

But Forest are fifth, who we’re five points behind, and I remain very confident of finishing above them.

I’ll accept I’m nearly always glass half-full, whereas others may be glass half-empty, but it really feels difficult to be fully confident either way on which direction the season goes from here.

Poch just signed with team USA, no way:

- they'll let him go cheaply

- he'd want to leave so soon

- Newcastle would be willing to pay what it takes to get him now

Also, I'm not that convinced Mitchell will be the one making those decisions, either firing Howe or hiring the next manager. PIF will look to bring in their own man IMO, someone experienced and a bigger name they can sell and show off as an "ambitious hire". They won't sign off on another young-ish unproven manager if they have to fire Howe in the middle of the season which would mean the club is in deep jeopardy of reaching their goals this season IMO.

PSR and revenues is the defining issue.

If anything there has to be more highlighting of PSR, at no point should we begrudgingly accept something thats solely in place to prevent us progressing.

I don't think firing Howe at the moment would be a wise move and don't expect it to happen.

However, in the event that Howe is let go I would really hope that Mitchell gets a major say in who takes his place as the manager and chief recruiter being on the same page is critical.

We can do better than Poch. We're possibly the most attractive job in the biggest league in the world.
