Impossible not to feel optimistic now. Unless Palace are deliberately trying to waste our time for shits and giggles (which I doubt), then you'd imagine we've gone back in again cos we weren't as far apart as suggested previously.

I'm fairly certain we did.

His clause was £60m?

Edit: nevermind, that was for clubs in CL or something like that.

His release clause was under £45m…

edit: as per above, I see that was only for non-PL teams. Surely Palace would have accepted £50m from us rather than £40+5m from Bayern in the circumstances. Would seem crazy to go all the way to £60m

Will be interesting to see whether Guehi is part of the Palace team/squad on Sunday. Assuming ofcourse the deal isn't done by then I'd be surprised if he starts for them with everything going on so publicly.

Think we’ll know either way wether the bid is accepted or not by then

Spot on! Need players that make a difference and not just signing quality for the sake of it. It’s expensive, but the right way forward. Soon we will be able to improve the squad by investing in to top top top young players. For now, 1st team is more important.

There is no way that this isn’t going through - our first bid was two weeks ago today!

Not a chance we’ve wasted two weeks if we aren’t 100% certain that he wants to come!

Found these comments interesting from Howe:

There are two ways to look at it,” said Howe, whose side kick off the new Premier League season against Southampton tomorrow. “If you believe in the deal, believe in the player and it’s still within your financial structure, then yes, 100 per cent, you keep working on it.

“But there are also times where we have to go, ‘Okay, that’s too much’, and we’ve done that plenty of times in the last two-and-a-half years. People might not have found out about that, but we’ve had to switch targets. It depends on the deal and the amount of money that you’re going to spend.

Sounds like the clubs knows what its doing to me.

For the price reported, he'll need to be pretty much world class from the start and imo he's not at that level. Whether there will be any money left over to buy a new RW seems doubtful as well. Hope for once the club knows what it's doing.

For once? They've barely put a foot wrong since they got here?

think this will be a hugely important signing for us if it goes through, just brings that extra bit of quality and depth to the squad

if the team can get back to its defensive solidity of 22/23 and maintain the prolific goalscoring of last season then we're in for a really good season

If you’re at the point where you think the club has made countless blunders in the last few years then just give up following the sport. How negative do you have to be to come in with that attitude after the last two years and a bit

If this was true we would have won something and would be in Europe this season. Harsh maybe but true nevertheless.

They put a foot very wrong with the PSR situation at the end of the season and had to scramble to fix it.

By that logic if it was the first / only time the club has put a foot correctly, we would be languishing in Championship or League 1

after being relegated the season the new owners arrived.

Continue to embrace failure and not winning fuck all since 1969, hope it makes you happy.

Sound like the kind of bloke that wins a million pound on the lottery and complains it was two million last week.

Wait

What

An absolutely key part of their decision making is for Darren Eales to log into N-O to see if the expert scouts, expert stat nonces, expert FFP nonces, expert tactics nonces and expert transfer negotiators all approve of deal

Why’s Eddie not mentioning that ?
