Aye, ferk them and their wanker owners and fans - lowball offer in January please to unsettle him then the ball is in his court!

Spot on, if anything just to wind Parish up too. I think it’s unlikely he comes to us now but we clearly like what he has skills wise at the right price.

I think we’ll aim for a RW in Jan, anything else a bonus. I guess if a CB comes available maybe that too but cost wise seems unlikely as I think they’ll spend a fair chunk on the forward line. Botman and Lascelles coming back lessens the urgency at CB too as someone above has already mentioned.

We didn’t in the summer.

Indeed we didn't however Paul Mitchell will not be given 2 windows worth of excuses.

I say this as someone who backed him during the summer debacle as well.

Another question is whether we even want to do deals in january, unless it's absolutely necessary. In the window where we signed Gordon, I'm confident Ashby would've been our only signing if Gordon didn't ditch training, despite our push for top 4 at the time.

I don’t think the club have afford to sign nobody this January. If we suffer a few key injuries and the squad suffers as a result there’ll be hell on and it could cost us Europe.

Sure, but if all the players we go for are being priced too high, we might still wait. I think we tend to focus on the long term when it comes to transfers (despite our accident with PSR), like doing nothing instead of overpaying (like we did with Guehi).

I think the quality of the league is generally really high that losing a key player makes a huge difference.

Palmer is basically carrying Chelsea. It's not to say they're shit without him but take him away and suddenly they're probably mid table.

See also Rodri at Man City for a higher up the table example. Overwhelming favourites for the league before they lose him for the season.

Makes the job Howe did with most of our first XI out last season all the more impressive imo.

Flip side to the above comments too in same post, we didn’t lose Bruno in that period though who was/is instrumental to us.

As for Guehi, there’s little reason to go back in Jan and for Palace now to sell. Summer is the next opportunity, where the figure will be a lot lower anyway.

This is what I think happens.

I think we'll be quoted too high and the club will use the excuse they do t want to make the same PSR mistakes as last time where they are scurrying around to sell players they don't want to in June.

I think it's a very real possibility, even if we have several targets. That's why most clubs doesn't buy in january. I don't think it would be an excuse though, the real mistake was to seemingly not have enough targets in the summer. I can understand not wanting to waste money by overpaying in january.

I would still like us to get him, him and Botman as a CB pair for likely 6 years, box that off and barely have to spend on the defense for a long time, be quite handy.

Whats this Guehi to liverpool lingo?

I cannot see it to be honest. yeah he could be a free but he's bit small if he's meant to be replacing van dijk.

And nowhere near as good.

Funny to think that if he ever ended up here, and there was a couple of keeper injuries, 4 of the England back 5 could legitimately be Newcastle players.

But Parish told him Palace would be challenging for the Champions League and that Newcastle were their rivals now. What happened?

Sideways move, european push etc etc.

I'm a petty man and i've enjoyed their season.

Honestly want it to get worse for them. Roy will be back soon.

Thought he looked quality on the ball in both games.  Defensively he is pretty solid and great at sweeping.  He would certainly add some much needed pace in the middle.  He was noticeably bad in the air and he did get ragdolled by Ferguson when he could have possibly given a penalty away.  But I still think he would be a good signing.

I'm just not sure we'd be interested at what would still be an over-inflated price in January and probably a decent enough price at the end of the season.  That plenty of others will get involved.
