If he does stay it’s really interesting from a player power perspective. You’ve got Isak pulling every tricky to try and get a move with three years on his contract. We’ve been desperate to keep him and might not be able to do it. Guehi is the opposite end of the coin. His owner wouldn’t let him go after a huge offer last year and he didn’t try to push it but he can screw his club in a different way by staying and leaving for nothing

Guehi has never really impressed me that much. He's not exactly a stand out or dominating central defender

He’s an outstanding defender on the ball. Possibly the best distribution from centre half in the league

It’s also kinda ‘bigger club’ power.

Real Madrid have taken advantage of free transfers or 1-year left on a contract for like 6 of their possible starting lineup. And they tend to do it now over like 3-4 years. It’s not even opportunity like Kroos was, it’s the actual strategy.

Real say they want you.  If they get you for free they’ll pay the megabucks. If you’re Rudiger, Alaba, Trent you refuse contracts from your team, refuse to go anywhere below the level of Real, too good to be benched. You leave for free. That’s player power but also big club power.

Real are doing it with Konate and will try to do it Saliba too. In turn Liverpool are doing it to Palace.

Liverpool could do with a CB this season though. Real went 2-3 seasons with only 1 RB as they waited for Trent.  No striker as they waited for Mbappe. No other club can get away with such squad plan if.

If he doesn't move this summer, I'd wager more money on him moving to Real Madrid on a free in 2026 rather than Liverpool. They need many CBs, especially if Alonso ends up settling long term on a 3-4-3 / 3-5-2.

Only Rudiger (34 when contract ends in 2027), Militao (Solid, but injuries likely decimiated his reliability), Asencio (Prison) and Hujsen on the books. Konate is someone they seemingly will either push for this summer or take on a free next summer, but another CB will be needed next summer too if they want to cash in on Rudiger or Militao. Whilst Guehi isn't the elite, he's dependable and would slot into the group well.

It's Konate next season and Saliba the season following imo.

They need a progressive passing CM and I think Tchou has a long-term future at CB, at least back-up CB.

Liverpool no doubt been in his ear

Just shows that he wants a move. When we wanted him he was smiling and happy to stay quiet 🤫, liverpool really make players act like cunts.

Liverpool at it again.

probably lowballed Palace with a derisory bid of £25m or so knowing "he only wants Liverpool".

Palace will have rejected it and pissed Guehi off.

imho of course.

I remember a video of him last summer when we were linked being asked if he was staying at CP and him shrugging his shoulders or something heavily to that’s effect. He’s obviously wanted out for a while.

He should stay at Palace this season

I wish we'd make a bid tomorrow just to force Liverpool's hand to spend £30m that they didn't want. If we got him then lovely.
