This is what it takes at this level to compete then. We are miles behind. Can't afford the best players because they are out of our spending range, and can't buy the next generation because we don't have a structure like City or Chelsea. Yet.

Your owners own an entire league. They could play the game if they wanted to.

Oh well, fair enough. That's a very strong stance but if that's what you think, that's what you think and you may well end up being right. Clubs can do as much as humanly possible to mitigate risk in a transfer but sometimes for a multitude of reasons it just doesn't work out.

Since he's got no chance of turning it round, what do you think we'll do with him? Persevere until we buy someone else? Sell him to Watford or some shite Ligue 1 club for £5m in two years time? What will his trajectory look like?

I agree, they do - but that doesn’t mean mistakes won’t be made.  I think they have here - and in isolation, that’s ok (well, you don’t want to make mistakes, but not every transfer will be a hit).   The problem is that not one of last summer’s signings look to have improved us.  Elanga’s signing is probably the most damning of all, as the fact that he is at his best just a pacy winger is suggestive of a manager who wasn’t looking to evolve the team’s style at all - he was ‘more of the same’.  There’s no transition - just bad signings.

I’m not sure where the lad goes from here - no-one will be queuing for him, that’s for sure.  I think he’ll be here next season if Howe is - I think Woltemade is the most likely of the summer signings to go, then Wissa if someone can be mugged for him.  But the player Elanga reminds me of more than anyone is Obertan - there is zero footballing intelligence rattling around there.  Maybe Howe will eventually get something resembling a tune from him - but he’ll never be close to worth what we’ve wasted on him.

I'm not up to date on the selling players between multi-club owners, but I'd imagine there's something along the lines of "NUFC are barred from doing it" or words to that effect.

But if that's an option then we should be doing yesterday.

The APT rules that the likes of your owners pushed stops that happening, or did you forget?

"The likes of your owners." You mean 80% of the league? Also, isn't it "fair market value." Who's judging that? You can absolutely game the system still and have an advantage over most other clubs since your owners own multiple clubs

I don't think we had anything to do with that, he was up against Hall who has been great but even he had difficulty with him.

He seems to be maturing and will be a big a big problem in the premier league in coming seasons.

He's a rotation option. He's not getting the opportunity to be a big problem. Not had a lot of minutes but has 1 assist in the PL this season. He's behind Semenyo and Doku as a dribbler winger and there's Cherki, Foden, Marmoush to compete with,

Nothing stopping the Owners setting up multi-club and moving players around.

Think it was in Hope's recent articles that that's what they're trying to setup.

Along with setting up the new training ground.

And stadium.

And new mega sponsors.

The owners remind me of the old ‘Jelly Head’ strip from Viz.  The solution is right there, but they have lime jelly for a brain

Pushed by the likes of Man Utd, grovellingly backed by the non-entities of the division

But has he been £55m good?! I doubt it. Get Murphy on, he was far cheaper.

Yes him and osula have played well and look like getting one.

tbf, he's getting the right service now......but his best game so far.

Might be a case of the players starting to adjust to his strengths. We didn't really have wingers who liked having the ball hit out in front of them before him.

Played well tonight, had Cancelo on toast.

Played loads of good balls in, only complaint is the one he played a bit late before he came off.

Not having that. Thought he was a donkey again and missed one of the best chances we had.

41 games with 1 goal and one assist ffs.

The fact anyone would describe him as a donkey tonight shows that he'll never win some folk over. It's pathetic.

He played well up until the final third but his final ball was pretty shit on the whole.

He did put in a nice cross first half but that was about it.
