Feel like people have completely forgotten how good this side used to be. If that's our best performance of the season and satisfactory other than some poor finishing, then we've fallen. In the first half, Brighton were all over the place and we couldn't capitalise, we played decent with some intent and intensity but never looked like scoring. Second half we were utterly abysmal. Miles off it.

Isak one on one, Gordon one on one and Gordon a free header from 3 yards out is the definition of looking like scoring IYAM.

The truly disheartening thing is I don't think we can even blame anybody for the window.

We weren't allowed to spend the money we have and in fact had to sell under the current rules

People will disagree but the Barnes, Hall, Tino money could have spent elsewhere. Hall and Tino have shown glimpses and could develop into top players but for the money we could have bought two established full backs from Ligue 1/Serie A/Bundesliga etc. Barnes signing never makes sense to me, yeah he’s got a hammer of a right foot but he doesn’t do enough for me. Controversial perhaps……

Gordon is a concern now

England have broke him or he’s not entirely invested as he was.

He is having a horrendous season

His form, fitness and for 101 reasons the lack of work in the summer, we look to have gone backwards

Was anything made in the comms about the blatant pen for handball in 2nd half?

Their defender drops in to take a goal kick as keeper was time wasting. He takes it to another defender short of penalty spot who picks it up respots it and takes kick again.

Very similar to Arsenal in CL last year which was widely accepted as being an infringement

It's getting to the point where Gordon 1 on 1 I just don't think he's going to score. No idea what's happened to him since last season, no idea if the stats back it up but he felt more clinical

Going to pay for a really poor summer transfer window. This side is miles away from finishing top 6 as things stand. Even top 10 looks a push.

Those involved in power games, put their own interests before our club,

The squad he seemingly won’t develop as he is so keen on keeping the likes of Longstaff and Almiron around

That's not on Howe. Were not allowed to buy replacements for them even if we could find takers.

Have to say Burn defended magnificently considering he was on a yellow.

A yellow he got, harshly, for a "foul" on Welbeck who DIDN'T get a yellow for scraping Bruno's heel 10 minutes later

That's fair aye, I think the point I wanted to make was that we're frustratingly haphazard and disorganised with everything we do in and around the box, it's always chaotic and desperate, last ditch and players are getting occasional chances without being set. I think this is more systematic than just poor finishing, I don't think the quality of chances, patterns of play and composure in the build up phase is anywhere near what it used to be, which is not an individual problem.

Not controversial, just a shit opinion.

Thought Barnes coming on brought more cutting edge to our play. Want him to start the next match, as much as I like Gordon his performances this season don’t justify him being picked over Barnes. Gordon can play on the right and deal with it.

Tonali being taken off for Willock I don’t get, an off form player being brought on to turn things around? He offered nothing.

Some bad subs made my Eddie, also he along with the recruitment team need to take some blame having brought in power and pace but little skill which you need against a team sitting back (first half Brighton).

A rethink is needed on the profile of player we sign for January and next summer.

Also don’t think it’s time to give Eddie the boot but we’ll outgrow him. He plays huff and puff football, close down, pressurise, intensity, force errors in front of the opposition goal and score. We’re not even managing that at the moment but I’ll think he’ll turn that around but that will only take us so far.

Yeah I think that's fair, there's definitely a lack of cohesion/quality at the very last point of our attacks in build up possession play and we often look most dangerous on the break. Teams sit deep against us now and know it'll probably work.

Obvious captain hindsight stuff, but any of our chances go in and it's a hugely different end result imo.

We have a knackered Wilson a not sharp isak a poor finisher in gordon, and an undercooked osula because he won't use him great squad management eddie lad.

It’s a colossal failure in squad management, no question. Ultimately it comes down to how ambitious the ownership actually are but if they are as much as they’ve said, then I’m genuinely concerned about where we’ll be by next transfer window and the questions that will be asked.

Barnes should be starting every game now like. Murphy and almiron should be used for injuries or tiredness. You'd think we had world class wingers playing the way he keeps getting benched.

Unless injuries, the two substitutions of Bruno and Gordon for Almiron and Longstaff is one of the most baffling I've seen. Bruno (our best player today) and Gordon (I agree not having his best of games) are two of our key players in creating that moment of magic we needed. It was no coincidence that Brighton controlled the game and could have scored a couple more when those two coming on; yet Almiron and Longstaff virtually give the ball away every time they received it (Longstaff on set pieces man :icon_puke_l:). 8 goals in 8 games is just not good enough.

I know it's still early doors, but if you aren't concerned by how things have gone so far this season, then you need to look again.

It’s disappointing but I’m not concerned. There’s issues that need addressing on and off the pitch and I’m sure it will in due course.

He has never been clinical one on one. Been said plenty in here that if his finishing was better, he’d score a shit load. Probably wouldn’t be playing for us, either!

He regularly goes for the ‘safe’ finish of just wanting to hit the target. Like lacing it on his left when he’s at an angle or a tame effort right at the keeper when he’s through.

He’ll still score a good amount as he’s a livewire. But he isn’t a natural goalscorer or a clean striker of the ball.

Bruno won't have gotten back to Newcastle until late Thursday. He'll have been running on petrol fumes.
