He's absolutely brilliant at what he does.

I agree he's great (statistics show he's a quality finisher), but for me a World Class player is top 5 in their position worldwide.

Maybe that's just my definition though

Yeah def not top 5. By that criteria only Isak is world class.

Now that I can 100% get behind.

And weirdly, I think he's vastly underrated by a lot of football fans that don't watch him week in week out.

Think you could make a case for them being in multiple categories based on how they're used and who with tbh. Eg I think Barnes can be a top 4 impact sub, an upper mid-table starter with good cover behind him, lower mid-table without. Half of them fit into future potential as well.

My best attempt:

Top 4:

Isak

Bruno

Top 6:

Botman (potentially top 4)

Gordon (potentially top 4)

Joelinton

Barnes (top 4 impact, top 10 starter, I split the difference)

Top 10:

Hall (strong potential for top 4)

Pope

Willock (would be top 6 without fitness problems)

Tonali (potentially top 4 but we're yet to see it here)

Livramento (potentially top 4)

Top 20:

Schar (age only)

Burn (age only)

Trippier (age and circumstances)

Longstaff

Wilson (age and injuries)

Kelly

Murphy

Targett (depends on injuries)

Krafth

Lascelles

Below 20:

Almiron

Dubravka

Future Prospects:

Miley

Unknown:

Osula

Future Prospects and Unknown aside I'd categorise top 20 onwards as not good enough or as useful squad players going forward.

Very good point.

You can think of it like this - if the Saudis bought us years before FFP (ala Man City), who would you want to keep to seriously challenge and who would you replace?

For me, the answer would be:

Pope (2nd choice or move on)

Livramento (potential)

Hall (potential)

Botman

Schar or Burn (as 4th choice CB)

Bruno

Tonali

Joelinton (as 5th choice CM and muscle)

Gordon

Barnes (impact sub)

Isak

First 11 with the sub in brackets:

New GK (Pope)

Hall, Livramento (New LB/RB)

Botman, New CB (Young CB, Schar/Burn)

Bruno (New CM)

Tonali

New CM (Joelinton)

Gordon (Barnes)

New Winger

Isak (New CF/RW)

I believe that team could seriously challenge depending on the quality of additions. We've got a very good spine, which all teams need.

That's 8 new players though.

Not going to rate the full squad but Bruno and Gordon aren’t Top 4 and never will be. Bruno is just too slow for the very top and Gordon’s end product and finishing isn’t anywhere near good enough.

Barnes, world class? I just don't see it. Clinical finisher but very one dimensional and just doesn't work hard enough for the team. We always look weaker down the left when he plays, and does not cover back enough.

We can't carry him because we don't have players that are strong enough where he's weak, so he's an impact sub for us at best but his skillset to me is world class.

I'd probably put Barnes into Class, and re-name the "sometimes" category to "capable of being elevated to decent by those around them".

I'd also put Tino in with Hall.

I will happily die on the Barnes is world class hill. Happily.

Tino will be class but Hall is going to be the fucking devil.

Willock is the biggest mystery to me, honestly. If he could stay fit he could be like our Muller but will that ever happen?

His skillset is hitting a sweet shot with his right foot. That is world class tbf, but I don't think the rest of his skillset is enough for a left winger. He's got England's LB behind him, Joeinton and Isak who can link on the left ahead. He's not exactly being left isolated on that side.

Our major issue is getting the ball in advantageous spots in the final third. When we do, he scores. Like, he invariably scores when we do. He knows exactly what he's capable of and puts himself in a position to do it, and he does it with world class consistency. Is he world class in our team? No, not even Isak is world class in our team. But he's absolutely world class.

But it's one of his remits to get the ball into advantageous positions in the final third. That's what left wingers do.

Can someone please explain why Lloyd Kelly is allegedly on 150k pw ?

This is more likely what Paul Mitchel could have been eluding to regarding our business being daft, tripling his salary because he's a free agent, ridiculous if true, ive looked around online many sources claim it is possible.

Must keep:

Bruno

Gordon

Joelinton

Hall

Livramento

Tonali

If the price is right get rid:

Everyone else

Literally the combined total of selling everyone else is probably less than selling one of those.

Yea agree. He just lacks something.

I would sell Bruno (lack of pace) or Joelinton. But I guess neither of them will be sold under Howe.

To be top 4 rank, even top 6 IMO, you have to be good with the ball and in tight spaces. Even as a defender.

Likes of Joelinton not that, likes of Hall definitely that. We are far better than our current performances showing, but if we got a manager that insisted on playing through the lines/get ball on half turn, some of our players would be really bad quick.
