Newcastle United 3-0 Aston Villa - 26/12/24

Great start, lovely goal from Gordon, then I thought they got on top though we were dangerous when we got forward.

The one issue really was our ongoing struggles passing out from the back under any kind of pressure, Eddie still hasn't solved this. Still think he should just drop Bruno back at times so he and Sandro can double pivot the fuck out of teams in those situations. We brought a lot of pressure on ourselves and that let them dominate things for a while.

Still, after the red card it was one way traffic unsurprisingly. Up to 5th, feels the exact opposite of how things were a year ago. Couple of tough away games to come so fingers crossed. If we can get something from them we're in a really good spot.

The red didn’t feel harsh at all to me. He tried to do him twice. The second stamp looked pretty egregious.

Nice to have a stress free Boxing Day win for once. I’m used to being battered by a combination of heartburn and depression.

I can’t believe there’s even a debate about the sending off. I thought it was a red in real time and the replays just confirmed it. He’s tried to do Schar twice.

Ultimately if it wasn’t intentional, it certainly looks it and there’s no clear slip, so it would be wrong for the ref to do otherwise. Often you just have to trust your gut and you can’t always give the player the benefit of the doubt.

Then kicking out afterwards really didn’t help his cause either.

The measured reaction of a man you should definitely give the benefit of the doubt to as to whether it was accidental.

Shoddy quality but that second angle couldn't make it more clear there was nothing accidental about it and that's the angle Taylor had. He remaneuvered his right leg to land on Fab ffs. Wild anyone would be calling that red harsh.

EDIT: Just realised the caption of the tweet is some melt asking how that's a red when one of the angles they're clipping makes it plain as day.

I don’t remember any periods of domination for them. Maybe a couple of mistakes from us but we were on top throughout.

once again I'm seeking an explanation for why our xG wasn't at least three.

Feel like I'm on another planet. It's clear as day he's moved his leg to land on him.

Emery not even reacting to that is a bit embarrassing as well. You'd think if that was Howe he'd have an arm around him taking a bit of control over the situation, not sat pretending he can't see it to avoid confrontation

Social media is full of clowns just engagement farming. And that goes for media outlets too.

Outside of the red card for them I thought Anthony Taylor gave them fucking everything.

Bald pervert.

I actually thought the opposite. Cash was booking harshly early on and Gordon should have been booked.

Thought Onana was excellent for them today and Rogers looked bright 2nd half but other than that we've brushed aside a fairly average team without doing anything special ourselves.

Which means we're fucking mint

Thought they brought Rogers off when he was just starting to trouble us.

In the angle from behing you can literally see him stamp down.

2nd angle, he bends his right foot towards Schar. If you're trying to avoid him, surely you go away from the body.

I don't care what he says, he meant to do Schar and I'm glad he got punished for it.

Cash should have been sent off for the pull on Schar from the free kick.

McGinn should have been booked for the foul on Gordon in the first 10 mins.
