No it's not that. I just can't believe you weren't following the club with Solano, Bellamy, Shearer et al. Feels like you've been around since then.

Too early for Tonali. He's also lucky enough to be playing #6 with two ballwinning #8s. Makalele did not have Frank Lampard tackling and harranging defenders like our #8s.

 

To his credit, Tonali was impressive against Arsenal with no Bruno in the team, so my hopes are high.

That’s pretty much what my XI would look like, only with Beardsley in ahead of Solano.  I’d argue in favour of Lee ahead of Batty if we’re not thinking tactically.

Batty was the destroyer/ disrupter in 2 Top Division winners for 2 separate clubs (obvs Leeds the season before football began).

 

Every top team needs a player like him to allow the more creative  players to perform. Tiote is probably the next best we’ve had but he was levels below Batty. I don’t think Batty gets the recognition he deserves

 

Tonali could perhaps do the role but they are different players.

 

We’ve all seen Hall, he’s become an England international with us and will be for years to come. He’s the best left back we’ve had since Alan Kennedy. I’m baffled how anyone else can be picked ahead of him. How many games he’s played is irrelevant when you can see class. Tony Green being a prime example.

The Alan Shearer we paid a world-record fee for is what we got for one season (96/97).  He wasn’t the same player at all after the injury at Goodison - I don’t think it’s controversial to point that out.  It was impressive that he managed to continue playing at the level he did afterwards, but he wasn’t what he was pre-July 1997.

These things always have a lot of subjectivity to them and are people’s opinions more than just purely stats. Not necessarily a right or wrong way. 
 

I just find the notion that anyone could leave out the club and Premier League’s top scorer from an all time PL XI a bit mental.

Some of it depends on the formation you’d play etc for the imaginary XI.  Using the current 4-3-3, then Beardsley-Shearer-Isak is how I’d go.

 

In terms of PL records, Shearer scored more PL goals in his four seasons at Blackburn (three and a half really, given he was crocked in 92/93) and first season at us than in his remaining nine seasons at NUFC.  He was possibly world class during that early period - he was still excellent afterwards.  I’d still have him in my side.

Tonali just hasn't played enough games yet but another season of this and he'll be taking Cabaye's place in the 2nd team. Lewis Hall isn't far off either. I wanted to find places for Burn and Joelinton. 

 

I struggle to think of many centre backs who have been as consistently good as Burn for us. He's been absolutely brilliant.

Regardless the shearer that after that season only scored 2 goals less in 99/00 and 01/02 than he did in first season and then went on to be not just our but the premier league all time top scorer. Not to have in an all time 11 is madness imo

I’d have him in my NUFC PL XI, but like I said I don’t think it’s an unreasonable take to not have him in there.
