Isn’t the verdict on the 115 charges due in a month? I’m guessing it’ll be appealed (kicked down the road) but I wonder if there’s any chance they’ll be a points deduction? Their spending in Jan suggests probably not.

Their spending in January suggests, to me at least, a transfer ban, points deduction (possibly suspended) depending on their league position and a fine which won't bother them at all.

They can just appeal, and then we will have to wait until next season or so.

We'll need to be clinical but if Gordon is fit, he and Isak will get chances in behind unless City magically improve defensively over night.

We still need to be very careful defensively though and big fingers crossed that Botman is back for this.

Based on last night it looks like Trippier might be ahead of Tino at the moment aswell but will need to protect him and Hall if they put their pacey players up against him. If it's Grealish then not too worried.

Hopefully their new Rodri replacement is injured after yesterday.

They won't have a choice but to go full strength against Real unless they want to piss off their fans.

If they lose on those charges a points deduction would be the least of their worries.  Titles stripped and mandated relegation would be a potential outcome.

What are people thinking for this?

Krafth in for Burn and the same setup and team as against Arsenal?

The usual 4-3-3 and Willock in place of Joelinton?

4-3-3, Man City's loss of form is due to a lack of legs in the middle of the pitch, put as many runners in their as possible that can transition quickly, and we should create chances.

The main thing to overcome here imo is making sure we're at our best when players will already be wary of getting injured before a final. It takes a level of mental strength beyond what you usually see in order to do it.

Eh? I’m on about from the Arsenal game and it read that way to me. Botman started that game. Otherwise I’d be typing out 9-10 changes

Ah, I see.

Unless he does go the Arsenal formation, I can only see Kraft/Botman for Burn and Willock for Joelinton from the ‘usual’ team.

Although I suppose there’s more a choice between Tino and Trippier now. And also assuming Gordon will be fine.

Very good point. Based on that Willock has to start.

I do wonder whether at least part of the problem is now Pep himself. He seemed to be mulling over the possibility of leaving / retiring before deciding to give the club another two years. Not long afterwards, the job changed. Instead of maintaining a successful side, it's now a rebuild. There's also the PSR issue on the near horizon. Instead of a serene march to a triumphant farewell, it's a task that really needs someone with a long-term commitment who's prepared to weather what could be a difficult period in the short-term.

Of course I don't doubt his ability, but I think this is a new situation for him. He's only managed clubs on an upward trajectory. Either he's facing a two-year slog only to hand over the reins to a new manager, or he'll have to make a longer-term commitment which a few months ago he didn't seem to want to do.

Having a tentative, fearful and overly cautious approach tends to have an adverse effect. I think the best way for the players to protect themselves is from a place of strength and confidence in the present. I know myself when I begin to overthink things I rarely make astute decisions and tend to encounter more pitfalls. A singular commitment to what is immediately before them will be their greatest ally and give them the best chance of arriving into the final in good shape.

Would argue that I don't think the 5 at the back would work here. Against City the best form of defence seems to be attack. They look vulnerable going in reverse but can still cause you problems going forward. I think if we sit off and allow Foden to do his usual stuff against us as he often does then we'll get beat comfortably.

Willock I feel is the safest bet to slot in and be our legs and help on the counters.

Choice may be made for us if Burn and Botman are out but hopefully Botman is fit to start with Schar.
