Newcastle United Vs. Nottingham Forest - 23/02/25 @ 14:00 (Live on Sky)

We still have a good team, just never confident when Tonali isn’t playing.

Guess we just have to keep the ball and deny them the chance to counter on us. Can see them running through our midfield otherwise.

Think they'll score first. Then it just depends on which NUFC turn up. Hope the atmosphere doesn't go flat for long periods.

I'm still reasonably confident of a positive result, but it'll probably be nervy and maybe a hard watch.

NB - I'm shite at predictions, so there's always that.

Don't know what everyone is wetting the bed for, we took care of these with ease away from home. Yes, the starting line-up isn't ideal but Howe knows what he's doing and he has a strong bench to make something happen late on if we need it.

I'm not saying it's gonna be an easy game but we win today.

With that midfield, we might need the ref to be strict today. One that lets everything go like the one vs. Bournemouth (most fouls committed in the league) will likely see us bullied out of the game.

However the ref plays it, we need to be more sensitive to what you can get away with than we have been in our non-City recent defeats.

We just need to neutralise their threat from Elanga and MGW. It's not like they have some super big secret where their success comes from.

Call me a pessimist but I don't see anything other than a quiet afternoon today.

Starting XI perhaps looks a few short of the strongest possible. But happy that the bench looks so strong and we have genuine options.

Perhaps we won’t get worse after we make subs for once.

Maybe someone can explain the logic because I don't get it either.

Because we play Liverpool Wedneday and then Brighton Saturday.

Bit of rotation to keep players fresh. And, if Tonali has a niggle which he could play with, but with those two games coming up, rest him in this one and hope the team gets the result. If this game goes badly, then the option to risk it is there.

Fair enough. Hopefully that means it's just a twinge which means he'll be ok by Wednesday, although I would not be taking any risk at all playing him today, even off the bench.

Only concern is we're a bit lightweight and lacking aggression (other than Bruno) with that CM 3.

Not watched much of Forrest this season but can't imagine they're playing intricate football through the middle of the pitch so hopefully shouldn't be an issue this game.

Can't really go all guns blazing today with it being such an important and big week coming up in terms of games.  I agree that Willock needs to put in a performance and I'm also keen to see where Miley fits into the midfield.

I always think I’m a bit negative about NUFC. Then I come in these threads before a ball has even been kicked and half the posters have us already beat or they’re moaning about the starting XI.

I feel like a blind optimism, happy clapping type in comparison
