He's a top striker IMO. The only reason I would be dubious is the fee for a 29 year old, especially given we'll get hammered for it down the line with the cartel PSR.

But I wouldn't fret over it, he won't be coming here.

If we sign Wissa I don't ever want to hear PSR from anyone at the club, client journalists included.

Only way we would sign Wissa is because Howe has won the battle to make such decisions with Eales stepping aside. As a manager he'll want any player who will give him the best chance to win games, he'll leave the spreadsheets to someone else.

Not that I think Howe would push for Wissa either mind. He's as aware of PSR ramifications as anyone.

I think Mitchell bouncing and the targets we have been pursuing tell us that Eddie is well and truly in charge of recruitment direction.

Let’s be honest, backup strikers don’t get much better than Wissa. He’s not far off Mbeumo ability-wise and fits what Eddie Howe wants in a forward; all action, flexible, works hard and great personality. Sure, it’s a short-term fix but what do you really expect from your sixth-choice target?

That said, concerns about his age and the fee in this PSR world are completely fair.

We can get around that by selling him to KSA in 2 years. Also a good hook to him by offering him that chance to make great money in his 30s.

What’s this crack about Wissa being 29 and Isak 26, they’re 28 & 25. There’s an over 80% chance that a footballers birthday will fall during the season, we can’t just start rounding everyone’s up.

I'd be happy with this one now. Has an excellent scoring record and we might have enough left over to continue our monitoring of a CB, CM and GK.

We're monitoring so hard right now.

im most cases aye but wissa is 29 after our 3rd game of season. The way this window is going and how long we take he’ll maybe be 29 before he kicks a ball for us (if he signs)

Wissa would be a great signing, I think. He'd be the perfect replacement for Wilson. He's scored 45 EPL goals in the last four seasons. He'll easily get us 10+ goals. We could get three good seasons out of him as a backup striker. I'd be really happy if we got Wissa.

Why?

Because he will not improve, and his resale value will be less than what we pay.

He's a good player don't get me wrong but we have one of the oldest squads in the league and we are literally choosing the most expensive option possible.

With wissa though I don't think we intend to buy him for resale value he's basically gonna be our backup for his total time here. Bit like Wilson.

This is a transfer that’s more suited to a squad player/back to Isak in a striker. I think young strikers are best served playing games. An experienced player with goals that knows he is coming into to rotate or come off the bench.

Yea and Wilson was another player we hung on too long to. We need to arbitrage PSR like everyone else, in fact it's even more important for us as our revenue is much lower than our stated ambition.

Buying a player who is almost 29 who doesn't even have elite European experience for a premier League premium price is just adding to PSR issues we may face in the future.

Alright, so we missed out on players around 22/23 yrs old because bigger clubs swooped in, but we're gonna pass on this guy who's got at least three good seasons left and scores pretty regularly because he won't make us any money back?

Wissa and Isak up front probably gets us Champions League again next season. We gotta face it, younger players that good will probably get poached by richer teams. Pedro and Ekitike are proof. Watkins or Wissa would be great signings and help us with the financial rules since we'd likely qualify for the Champions League again with either of them and Isak.

In two years they will likely be another 22 year old striker with huge potential we can go after.

I will be absolutely buzzing if we get either wissa or Watkins. Excellent CFs with great stats and injury records.

Such a good shout.

He would absolutely be a prime candidate to go over to Saudi and this really is something we need to start factoring in more.

If he joins and performs at a similar level as he has at Brentford, and gets more visibility, especially with us being in the Champions League, we'd likely be able to get decent money for him from Saudi still once he hits age 32 or so.

I would put this in the ‘panic buy’ category, especially if we are paying daft money (£40m+).

Surely we haven’t scouted strikers for 12 months to end up with Wissa despite his impressive goal return last season.

It's not daft money at all. He's a proven striker who has all the tools to do a job at the top level. Man City and Chelsea used exactly these type of signings to fire themselves into the top echelons of Europe and it was worth every penny.

The only reason we can't do the same is because football has become a closed shop for the cartel clubs.
