We're right not to be held ransom on the price for Wissa but at the same time I feel for the Brentford supporters, especially with what's happening with Isak, but at least everything we have done in this scenario is above board and the only reason Wissa is unsettled is because we've actually made a bid for him. Having said that I'm still hoping this one gets done as I think he'll be an awesome upgrade on Wilson and is a great option from the bench.

This one we can chalk down won’t be happening and a tweet today to confirm we’re stepping away. No way we bid £25m, then take an age to raise to £30m when Brentford all along want at least £40m, for us to suddenly then jump up to that. 
 

Brentford likely can get £25m next season with 12 months left.

It is embarrassing. We value Longstaff at 15m who is 27. A 28 year old who bagged 20 EPL goals last season is only valued at 25m by us. Albeit they did a bit of an increase for a final offer but apparently 40m is too much for a striker with 20 goals.

My guess is Wissa will sign a new contract with Brentford with a reasonable release clause like 25m that can be activated next summer. I do hope we can get him this summer.

Not sure why Wissa would accept that. He isn't getting any younger and I can't see him scoring a hatful in that Brentford team next season

Wissa likely kicking off because it’s probably legit his only chance to play UCL football. No guarantees how future seasons go and potential moves, but right now he sees one that comes with UCL football.

Longstaff only had one year left on his contract, as well as being homegrown.

The crux is Wissa contributed as much as Salah did last season but for Brentford. Saying he is worth 25-30m is a joke. If Brentford want 40m just pay it. Job done for 3-4 years so we can move on to getting other players in.

He only has had one season with those numbers though. But I also would just pay 40m under our current circumstances if that gets it over the line

We are just trying to get the best deal possible. It's not an extra 20 quid. If they want 40 and we can get him for 35 but it takes a couple of weeks longer then it's worth it.

This is the problen though whilst we wait someone will come along and pay the asking price.

That's always the issue particularly as you get towards the end of the window. You're relying on dominoes falling into place and clubs needing replacements. Most PL clubs are simply too savvy to sell given the risk of relegation and the financial doom that brings.

Talk of their valuation being £50m for Wissa is understood to be inaccurate. It is not price that is holding up any particular deal but rather the issue of not being prepared to weaken their squad so significantly by allowing Wissa to go without an adequate replacement in the building.

 

Wissa, who is desperate to move to Newcastle and play Champions League, is not currently training with the Brentford first team and is understood to be unhappy at the deal having stalled.

 

But negotiations have been cordial and it’s understood that Newcastle’s valuation is considered fair which leaves the door open to a deal if Brentford believe they have replacement options that will shore up their forward line ahead of the Premier League campaign.
