Yeah I think it's pretty fanciful to suggest he won't go to AFCON. My take would be 'why shouldn't he?' really. It's not his fault the competition is in the middle of the season and clubs shouldn't be expected to insist that players withdraw, from any (competitive) international match. 

 

From our point of view, it just comes with the territory and, as always, I think it's important to remember that players representing their country whilst being on our books is ultimately a net positive for us. The short term frustration is outweighed by the fact that players can realise their aspirations on the international stage whilst playing for Newcastle. 

 

With that in mind, we could really do with Sven getting a call-up sooner rather than later

Playing in a major tournament for your country remains a huge honour and players rightly want to do it. If you think any player should forfeit it for their club you’re just going to have to suck it up.

So AFCON is December 21st to Jan 18th assuming a team went all the way to the final. I’m guessing though the players will be with respective countries earlier than the official start date?

 

So assuming he goes while he may appear for a cameo role before the next international break we’ll have him back in better shape for the City game then hopefully far better shape as we move through the games (Everton, Spurs, Burnley, Mackems Chelsea plus a couple champions league and the Fulham cup match). Whatever happens Im just really looking forward to having him back in the squad because he’ll be a great option to have and give us another option. I’m keen to see what Howe does with him, how he rotates him in the side or situations where he might play him with Woltemade.

Just seen we are the only prem game on Boxing Day and it’s at 8pm. What a load of shite. Yet again, nobody gives a fuck about the fans. I’m sure transport will be easy….

Saturday 8pm seems to be becoming the norm and all. Second week in a row there has been no 12:30. But a 5:30 and an 8 game. I think we’ve had some later games on Sunday too in the last season or so.

They will just pick him anyways, and play him 90 min every game. We need to get him in shape fast, as they will run him to the ground and have him be injured again. They won't care.

Just he’s no longer injured, and it’s just a case of him building up the required fitness and sharpness, as to when he’s ready to play. Seems very cautious about putting any kind of date on it, which I think is partly-related to the situation with playing (or not) for DR Congo.
