They aren‘t qualified yet anyway. They have to face Cameroon in the semis and potentially Nigeria/Gabon in the final. Not an easy ride

They are. They went in the World Cup yet if that’s what you mean

That’s World Cup qualifiers mate.

They’re in a group with Senegal, Benin and Botswana at the AFCON, so probably favourites along with Senegal to make the knock out stage.

Hes been running out on the grass for 3/4 weeks now right, and Howe has said he doesnt have any injury related problems. Im all for not rushing people back, but its taking some time this.

Fit to train isn't always fit to do contact sport especially if they want to avoid a secondary injury.

Although I am an over weight none athlete so what do I know 🤣

I have no doubt they know what they are doing, but the way Howe talked about Wissa it seemed it was only fitness related.

Sounds like they are gaming it so he doesn't go afcon.

How would that work? Wissa would have to be fully bought into that and openly lie to Dr. Congo.

Can’t keep him here if he is fully fit and he wants to play, can we?! Plus would he not then be out until the new year, anyway?

Still holding out hope that he might come back in a few weeks and then not go to AFCON. About a 1% chance of that happening, granted. But there’s still a chance…..

If they beat Nigeria….The winners of the continental play-off final will progress to a six-team intercontinental qualifier, which will be held in March….What with the AFCON in Dec/Jan, Wissa could miss half of the second half of the season as well as all of the first half.

Spend all summer chasing him.. Pay twice his value. Ends up injured not even playing for us when we need him the most.

Reckon he'll play more games for his country than he does us before 1st March.

Terrible signing (not aimed at his ability, just the circumstances surrounding him being here)

I think that 6 team qualifier is during the international break and won’t miss any Newcastle games.

If they can beat Nigeria, I reckon it strengthens our hand in terms of getting him to skip the AFCON.

”Want him fully fit for that World Cup playoff? Then let him stay here and work his way back so he’s at peak fitness by March”.

Obviously still completely relies on both Wissa and Congo buying into that theory, but at least it’s a little something to try and bargain with.

Exactly. They’ll have friendly games anyway if they don’t make it to that.

Suppose it’s easier for him to duck out of friendlies like.

Why?

Best thing is they lose and play meaningless friendlies.

I however, would love to see DRC at the World Cup.
