Best player on the field when he came on. Great assist. Always available for the pass. Playing off press like a boss.

Somehow the only player in our team that is able receive the ball with his back facing the opposition goal, turn with the ball and still have time to pass it without losing it or getting fouled.

Took all season but we finally saw him play a through ball!

Stood out all the more because of the shite we'd seen before that. Having a finisher on the end of it helped mind.

Great pass for the assist, but he'll be benched again next week for the two lads in there that treat the ball like a hot potato but run round a lot.

We’ve got to play him ahead of Joelinton next season. The difference in quality of first touch is reason enough alone.

Why not play both and bench Tonali instead.

Should be starting for us next season. He wants the ball, he uses it well and he's grown into the position as the season has gone along.

In his one run in the team between February and March, he was impressive. Once he cracks the role off the ball he'll be great

Has to start against West Ham next week after today's cameo. Thought he was absolutely flawless in the 30 mins he was on, and a superb assist for the goal.

Feel like it could be an option in the same way we used Willock the season we finished 4th.

Did he ever play LW or left of a front 3 at Villa?

It was his main position. He said one of his motivations for joining was that he wants to play in the middle.

Scratch that idea then:

Should be playing he has the tools to unlock defences.

I rate the lad highly he's having to get used to an all action centre midfield role with misfiring players around him.

Get the feeling Eddie doesn't like him centrally but the competition on our left flank is also high, he's been a bit part player this season.

That being said, in his cameo he was our best player.

Perhaps Eddie doesn't trust him defensively. He has a habit of letting runners go.

He is still learning the position like, so I'm sure he'll sort it.

I don't think he's a central midfielder is probably why. Always had him pegged as a 10/ winger.

We also put a lot of stock in our fullbacks getting a lot of support and he isn't suited to tracking back at all.

Indeed, we bought two players in the summer whose best positions are number 10s, Ramsey and Woltemade. The unfortunate truth is that we don’t play with a 10 and there have been pretty much zero indications that we’ll switch to having one

You'd think our business last summer would warrant a big write up in the athletic with explanations about how each target emerged chosen sorted and decided on.

Two dedicated reporters to get it done and anarl.

He's what every team needs, a neat and tidy midfielder with good movement.

Really not sure what our starting midfield will look like next season, lots of thinking to be done.

that’s the part I totally don’t understand. Still remember the reports that we were after Ekitike and planned to play him as a 10 behind Isak? I thought we would really switch to 442 or 4231 this season, or at least mix them up occasionally.

I really don’t understand it. In the universe where we got Ekitike and able to keep Isak - what’s the formation Eddie going to play?

I think we need to separate the tactics and style we were planning to go for this season from the one we ended up with. The season has really been more about crisis management than any kind of planned progress to the future.
