Danny Murphy slagging him off consistently last night. I'm 99% sure he thought he was supposed to be playing in the 9 and was dropping deep of his own volition. He was so obviously player Infront of the two midfields in the ten with Osula and then Gordon ahead of him. Yes he still could do better to be a little more advanced at times but he was playing the role and for the most part doing it well I thought. Showed better strength and link play and he has looked better every time he has played that position compared to no.9.

Might have to accept that like Joelintons we bought him for one position but he's going to excel in another.

Murphy warmed to the theme as the game went on then had a little told you so episode when he scored

Like two days ago people wanted to sell him in the summer.

I'd still sell him if he has a good world cup, or even if we can just get our money back.

Still think that he doesn't really fit Eddie's style, never thought he was poor.

I liked him so much more in this role. He just can't get on the ball enough as a number 9 in our system, but he's got such obvious quality when he gets on it and has players around him. Wouldn't be the first time a player takes a season to acclimatise, and I reckon he's got it in him

He's scored a decent amount of goals so far in a season where hes acclimatising to a different league. He reminds me a bit of Kai Haverts in the way that he plays better when the pressure isn't solely on him to score. He's a playmaker, he provides that bit of magic and a delectable touch that we've been screaming out for,for years.

I just can't see Howe consistently playing him in a position that suits so,as much as I love him, if we can double our money (if he has a good world cup) that may be what's best for him and the club.

I'd rather he was a Newcastle player for a good few years though.

If we can teach him how to tackle and shoot from distance (and bulk him up a bit) I reckon he'd be a great attacking midfielder who creates and occasionally and gets into the box when attacking.

I'd rather nurture the extremely talented footballer.

Danny Murphy kept having a go at big Nick because he wasn't in the box enough, that was because he was playing one of the middle three, system slightly tweaked for it. Eddie said so in the interview after the game, i mean is too much to ask for Murphy to do a little research, the bald gimp.

I'd bet we could find another extremely talented footballer that actually fits our playstyle for the amount we bought him for like.

But just like Joelinton, you don’t pay a top centre forward’s money for a good midfielder.

Was just having a look at his stats for the season, he's averaging a goal or an assist every 173 minutes, so pretty much every other game. He's been pretty useful for a bloke who apparently doesn't suit our style.

I don't disagree with the basic critique of him i.e he doesn't attack the penalty box well enough and he isn't smart enough with his frame.

It's been compounded by some pretty poor attacking displays this season, where he's simply been left isolated with next to no service.

That said, Eddie has spoken at length about his frustration about the lack of training ground time, as well as the need for patience with Woltamade specifically as he builds up his fitness and understanding of the English game.

There's a lot to work with too. A well coached Woltamade, who can hold the ball up for our less technical wingers could be a menace. He has wonderful feet, a supeb touch and can play a superbly weighted ball. As above, it's not like he hasn't contributed either.

Are we not just doing it again? Barnes, Gordon and Hall were all written off, while Kelly has proven to be a good player at Juve. Woltamade is the latest to be deemed surplus to requirements in a summer where fans were chucking signings on the scrap heap after four months. Just give the lad a bit of time, he's got bags of potential and when he's on it he's an absolute joy to watch.

To be fair, the £40m we paid for Joelinton has been a steal, regardless of position. For long stretches of time he was one of the best midfielders in the league.

Not saying he will, but he has the technical ability to become a similar style player to Wirtz who cost more. Technical, advanced midfielders still cost a premium

I don’t Joelinton was ever worth the money we paid tbh - nor do I think he was ever one of the best midfielders in the country.  His best form came with him ahead of Willock which was more like a LW.

You could justify the £40m for Joelinton now but as much as I love him he's not been close to being one of the best midfielders in the country. A very good energic, bruiser but there have been comfortably better players

Yea which we couldnt

I ain’t digging anyone but if you look back at the summer transfer window, the overall “success rate” is horrible. Even Kudus, the one we thought a sure win one at that price, failed to make an impact for Spurs. Liverpool also overpaid for two players which make this there worst window ever. Nevermind our own Miss

I genuinely think if we sell Nick and spend that money on another striker, the chance that we get a better one is lower than 50%, or even 30%.
